    Hi
I am 37yrs old. I have irregular periods. I used to have very regular cycles. I am having some health issues which I am dealing with it for 2+ years. So I am taking new medications for that and it's like trial and medicines to see what helps with my pain.
I keep changing pills and been taking out for a while now.

I have missed periods and my last cycle was in May. I went to my GP for irregular periods. She tested blood work. She didn't test much and tested only Prolactin. She said that covers the hormones test.

She prescribed birth control pills (lupin) to regulate the periods.
I never tried talking the birth control pills before.
Anyone tried birth control pills for irregular periods and did your get your cycles back? How long did it take for your periods to start?

I started my dosage 5 days ago and taking pills at the same time of the day. I noticed severe nausea this last 3 days. I am already having that chronic pain which I am struggling to deal with everyday and taking pain killers to move the day and be functional a bit.

I have nausea which is very new the last 3 days. I have to ask my doctor if the birth control pills causing my nausea.
Is this side effect expected and normal?

Did anyone of you have this side effects with the bc pills? Did it go away one you stop the pill?

I have to ask the doctor if any other medicine or any other way to induce the periods other than bc pills. Nausea makes me very sick on top of everything.

Doctor didn't send me for any ultrasound or any imaging of the stomach/uterus. I don't know the reason for the sudden irregular periods though.

    Any thoughts please.

Since you are having other health issues and are taking medications, I think it’s best you err on the side of caution and go see a Gynec before getting on hormonal BCPs.
I’ve always side effects from the PCP prescribed pills. Once I started going to a proper gynecologist, I realized that there are many other low dose options and things my pcp had no knowledge of. A PCP is good for a first stop but when you are already dealing with a chronic health condition, being treated for it, it’s best to update the specialist who is treating you about your new symptoms and go to a Gynec to see if he can help without worsening your other health issues. If irregular periods are caused by the other medications you are on, then the prescribing specialist will most likely know about it and have some sort of solutions for you.

Have you done any blood work? Check for thyroid levels. Sometimes that cause issues.

I would suggest you to consult a gynaecologist. If this pain is associated with it, its better to make sure you dont have any other severe issues. Its better to update about the health conditions and medications. Usually they ask during your appointment.

I have taken birth control pills for heavy unmanageable periods, two years after the birth of my DD. They did blood work, ultrasound etc. As I didn't have any other issues, they gave bcp. But the first one didn't work and periods were horrible. So, gyn changed the pcp. The second one worked and I took it atleast 6-7 months and then stopped. My periods were manageable after that. I didn't have any noticeable symptoms or weight gain. But not sure if there was any unknown effects.

Yeah I am scheduled to see the gyn but it's a long wait. So I saw the new PCP before that. For now, I am taking the birth control pills prescribed by the GP.

    Thanks for the response.

I did update my specialist about my irregular periods and she said it's expected to have irregular periods since I gained weight with the medications given to me.

I am in the waiting list to see the gyn. This birth control pills(lupin) is giving me nausea.

You can ask your PCP if she can order an ultrasound and further blood work for you. Mine did this and then asked me to go see a gyn for more in-depth diagnosis.

Yes I tested for thyroid. My PCP did the blood work before giving the prescription. She tested for TSH, free T4, prolactin. These 3 were normal.

I don't know if we need further labs to test for thyroids.

Did you get nausea with those 2 bcp?

Oh!! Okay. She did free T4, TSH and Prolactin blood work.
Do we need further lab work for this?

I will ask her about the ultrasound. She didn't tell me anything about ultrasound and she is my new PCP.
