It's not by choice. Thanks to an odd schedule I don't eat lunch until around 1pm. Then I don't feel hungry enough for another proper meal by 6. I start feeling hungry at 8 or 9pm but that's too late for IF to be effective. So some days I eat a snack by 5 and stop; on other days I give in and eat at 8pm. I guess I need to eat like my grandfather used to, first full meal with roti, dal etc., by 10am and dinner by sundown. Now that I think about it, breakfast really wasn't a concept in my grandparent's home. Everyone had tea at 6:30am and the women got busy preparing the first meal, which was eaten between 10-11am. It was IF before anyone thought of IF. Wonder if it was Brits with their eggs and bacon that gave us nashta?! : )

    14 Sept 2022

    Workout – 45 mins Spinning + 45 mins yoga
    IF - 16 hours
    Water - 2 liters
    Writing – 15 mins
    Reading – 15 mins
    chanting – 15 mins

Writing was such a challenge yesterday and for some reason, Rumi did not speak to me at all! The whole poem went over my head and I ended up writing on just the title! I have a feeling I need to change my writing hour but there is only so much I can fit in the two hours I have in the mornings. I think I need to wake an hour sooner!! Another habit I am working on with only so much success.

This is precisely how I ate when I was young. Morning Madras Coffee followed by 9:30 a.m. or 10:00 a.m Brunch. One other meal is directly at 6 p.m. I continued this practice even after coming to the US. However, the nutrition changed it now to a) Work out first in the morning, b) 8 a.m. I bread slice, 2 cheese spreads, 1 fruit + Coffee, c) Salad consist of Lettuce, Capsicum, Carrot/Tomato, Pistachio, Chia seeds, shredded cheese, shredded almonds, 3 table spoons of cooked rice, yogurt, cooked lentil at 12 noon, d) Two Indian bread (Chappati/Rava Dosa/Dosa) or 3 idlis, Pea protein, Fairlife Lactose Free Milk, and Banana Shake, 2 cheese sticks at 6 p.m. I do some upperbody and back exercises throughout the day.

    Hey
    Oh ok . Got you!
You are right , actually even Ayurveda prescribes two proper meals ; the concept of 3 meals seems like a foreign introduced one .
And to think of all those processed food like cornflakes, muesli etc being pushed off as heathier options for breakfast everywhere is really like a marketing push by circumventing natural food alarms humans have.
However , I actually feel really hungry the whole morning till about 1 and have to constantly be eating something and having a sumptuous lunch, then the interest starts waning but am mostly hungry to have another meal by 6 too ( which actually is mostly impossible given the office schedules .. but still can manage by 7-7:30 or so usually)
guess its the body clock cues which we get ourselves used to over time!
Just hoping that only the right or rather healthy cues push us w.r.t our meal intake!

    R u for real! ;)
I think you have been an early riser throughout and atleast last 10 years given the snippet 'wonder and Joy' was written 10 years ago! Kudos
My question is that given that I don't usually now feel like reading too much and writing is completely off, did you consciously push yourself at any point of time to religiously like follow a schedule for reading and writing that got you to this point where you are a regular at this ? Did you have to fight some disinterest and inertia at some point?

Just asking , since i have benefitted from drawing inspiration from yours and other's experiences . You know just at this point , I am doing some things consistently (ignore today please.. yesterday was really good :)) but at the same time my genuine interests which i had earlier seem to be like dead. I dunno if it makes sense but you know i usually find myself running low on patience on things i used to just enjoy doing earlier. Though I like to blame it on the daily rut and grind of working, home etc , but is it really that or is it just me not being energetic enough i wonder? !
I do feel guilty of not giving my 100 percent these days to anything .. even shopping i must say

    Thursday, September 15th - 21st day

Exercises - 45 minutes walk - 20 minutes of upper body exercises
    Water - 2 liters
    IF - 6 p.m. to 9 a.m.
    Reading - 30 minutes

The diet and exercise regiment resulted in good blood report from my lab test on 14th September 2022. This result will motivate me to do better and better. My nutritionist said only supplements I need to take are a) a capsule for iron (this is generally available in red meat and since I am a vegetarian, I need to take a supplement), B12 and a vitamin called "Metabolic synergy". 70 grams of protein, 79 grams of fat and 105 grams of carbohydrate customized for my health along with appropriate level of fiber is working really well.

    Dear Afresh,

You are right! I have always been an early riser, thanks to my mom. Even when my kids were babies, I used to wake up around 5 or so, finish cooking and cleaning for the day before husband left for work and did everything with them - nap when they napped, eat when they ate etc! Now, if you asked me to sleep in late, that would be a challenge. Not that I don't, but the latest would be may be 6.45!

    :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Of course a lot of disinterest! I also had to fight off excuses like I read for school so much or I read that article online for so long etc. The thing I realized was I was reading no doubt, but I was reading what was fed to me as my feed in various devices and platforms. My choice was disappearing. That kind of irritated me - a lot. So now I get a couple of books from the library and read them for the simple pleasure of it. In fact I just finished reading "Illusions" for the 100th time!

As for writing, it was always spontaneous and feelings based but with this creative writing program, boy is it a struggle or what!! I am not that kind of a writer at all is what I realized but then it is hard for me to say no if I sign up. I am sure at the end of the course, i will cringe reading my own writing but for now I am simply ploughing through. Can you believe if I say, Rumi could not inspire me yesterday? okay, it was an emotional roller coaster day (meeting a friend....long story) and my work day ended only at 9 pm and then while listening to Rumi, I fell asleep...woke up after 10 mins and wrote! So I fight these battles every day. But just like how one bird, one tree, one flower, one sunrise can help with a snippet, one good day keeps me going till I meet the next good day!

Thank you for indulging me! That teacher in me somehow believes that my students are looking toward me and they can detect fakeness more easily than others. That keeps me going too!

Shopping too?? I can understand though! When I read what you said here, I can't help but say "The key is not looking for what you used to enjoy, but enjoy what you are doing now, if you know what I mean!" I understand the daily grind we all go through with work or not - personally assigning an hour for 'me time' in the morning has played an important part in my life. Even when I was a stay at home mom, I took time to go time first thing in the morning - I knew that I had no control over my day and the only thing I could do consistently was shown up for me group class. It works. Please try it - just take one activity from your list and do it first thing in the morning! Don't worry
about the other activities, they will fall in place!

Finally, as for me waking up earlier - it is the age thing! I am just growing older that's all and as we grow older we do tend to get slightly selfish when we pause to think what is it we are doing for ourselves - we all feel lost in the every day rhythm of life and wonder as to where the years went by! Self care - done in so many ways based on what we think is important to us. While practicing self care, it is important to listen to our inner voice and understand if what we are doing is bringing us the joy we need in our lives. If not, we should be ready to change that - we may find something and then a need to change that may arise. Thus by trial and error, a few become must dos in life! We are changing constantly and it is wise to hear the 'today us' than crave for who were yesterday. Sun salutations for example for me, the harder I try the harder it gets to do. I decided not to fight that. I have set it aside and am focused on doing what I can, even if it means reading the same book again for the millionth time or doing the same yoga routine for another day or going to the same spinning class day in and day out!

The wonderful thing about this challenge for me is - Half of the stuff I do are part of my daily routine and the other half is something I am trying to establish as a habit. So pat your back on what you are doing, gently tweak what's not working and keep motivating others!

I did not mean to write such a long response but....there it is!!
