Are Kindergarten Teachers Rude?

    I recently went for some teacher assistant interview.The lady with whom I need to
    Work was very strict to the small kids.I found the kids too cute.She was loud but not assertive.I don’t know if she is showing off that she is some smart*** teacher but I didn’t feel good about it.

    Also when I asked her to give me a jist of things of what I should do..she said she is busy and can check with the front desk.

    Are Prek or kg teachers very strict or this person is? I didn’t find her talk to them calm or sweet manner or assertive but was loud and strict.

    By mid October, at the latest by Halloween, almost all kindergarteners fall in love with their teacher. Majority of them also firmly believe she lives at school and are shocked, sometimes to tears, if they see her in the grocery store or Target.

    Are KG or pre-K teachers rude? I don't know. But supervising and teaching 10-20 five year old's is automatic grounds for future sainthood.

    This is just the second week of school in many places. Most teachers are harried and themselves trying to figure things out. Looking at my kid’s preschool teachers go about their day I feel like I should build them a monument on the National Mall.

    My kid has loved all her elem teachers so far.. each teacher becomes her favourite and she writes all sort of notes for her and wants to give them gifts... tells me about where they live, their family, bday etc.
    Elem teachers - are trained to be polite and assertive. And no doubt they are always busy.
    I remember my old kids pre-school teachers and younger ones( private /daycare) are either okay or bad or really bad. But elem teachers have always been great.

    Exactly! Even my kid’s teachers were sweet.They are just 3-4 years old and she loud and curt..these kids looked so adorable and I spent 40 minutes around them and being assertive is one thing but she didn’t give a good vibe.Plus I needed to know what was my role but she claimed she is busy..not even two minutes.This was in the play area where kids were playing.

    The average salary for preschool teachers is $15-$19. At that salary in an already stressful job, a person will not be keen to train an assistant or be involved in the interview/hiring/onboarding of an assistant if that is not in their job description.

    Think about it - whose responsibility is it to explain your role to you? Hers or the preschool management's?

    If she is required to explain your role, then that should happen when she is not responsible for the kids. Little kids playing in a play area need supervision as they can easily fall and hurt themselves on the play structures or when running around.

    Most likely the front desk foisted you on her and she was trying to do the same to them. Plus, she might be worried that you will be willing to work for less and eventually replace her.

    In general with any teachers, it is better to start off with, "Is this a good time to ask you about..?"
