    Hi ladies,

I have a close friend who is getting married in Egypt this weekend. I will be attending her wedding; hence I will be travelling shortly.
I thought of wearing some decent western gown for the wedding party, as most of the Egyptians will wear something similar to the event. I will be the only foreigner attending, so I decided to go low profile.

But my friend, who grew so close to my heart in a short span of time, wants me to come with a saree. They are so addicted to Bollywood and have a craze about our ethnic wear.

I came with 3 sarees from home, but when I check them now, none of the blouses are fitting. I have put on a lot of weight post surgery, and not in a position to lose them anytime soon :(

I will have to travel tomorrow, so I don't think I will get a chance for making a new blouse or buying a readymade one on-line soon.

I do not see any Indian or Sri lankan tailor near me. None of the tailors know how to adjust my blouses either.

My husband suggests, given the fact that there won't be any foreigners/Indians attending the Egyptian wedding this weekend, I should try something Indo-western like wearing black fitting T-shirt as a blouse to the silk saree I have. I tried that at home, and it looked good on me. Especially the full sleeves in black made me look slightly slim than I am actually. But still I am not sure of this idea.

But what do you think ladies?

you can also try some shimmery tops or knit crop tops ( in gold), if you have time buy from amazon. I myself have one in mind that i will buy for diwali. Its sequin fully sleeve crop top on amazon.

    This is fine.
You can also go to the party section of a good department store and look at the short tops there. You are sure to find something that matches your saris.

It is a great idea from your husband. : ) She looks so elegant in the picture. It's one of the rare times when a "modern" blouse looks good to me. I googled the picture and then ogled at it. but in a nice way to know the saree and jewelry details.

I liked the way she has worn the saree. At the point where the pleats end at the waist(blue arrow in image below), the saree edge is almost horizontal, not at the typical 45 degree angle.

Amazing what a dark colored long sleeved tight fitting top can do to a saree. I want to buy that grey striped saree, go back in time and wear it to some events. : )

I have seen women wearing these tops with Saree in USA, especially blouse with long sleeve with lace pattern looked great( eg: black). Similar models are available in amazon as blouse. Also, for Indian functions/ festivals I gave seen kids using western tight crop top as a part of Indian attire for their performance.
Good idea by your h. I am sure you will look great in it

I have used crop tops as blouses. They look great! A lace crop top or shimmery will look good with sari.

    You can definitely try it.

When I visited India last year we hosted an event. I wore a silk saree with ruffle sleeve blouse( Custom made) and it was a super hit..
These days such blouses are in trend
