I was watching a tamil cooking show and realized the judges were men.Plus most of the restaurants are run by men.Be it the head chef or waiters..looks male dominated.

We have women cooks Ofcourse but it is more of home cooked food, very few small restaurants are run by women, or mess food.

Even in colleges,I assume men are the cooks.

Famous cooks I know are venkatesh Bhat, chef damu, Sanjeev kapoor,Gordon Ramsey are men.

Only one women am aware of is Rachel ray and Martha stewart..

Just was curious..why are most restaurants headed by men? Even history has “Nalan” who is a man as the best cook.

Maybe am not aware of famous female chefs.would love to know

I don’t know about India. In the US there are plenty of prominent women chefs, though it is a male-dominated industry.
Maneet Chauhan, Priti Mistry, Stephanie Izzard, Gabrielle Hamilton, Suzanne Goin, Nancy Silverton are just a few names off the top of my head. And there are prominent women in the food arena like Madhur Jaffrey, Padma Lakshmi and Priya Krishna.

I vaguely recall picking up pocket-books and regular books on various Indian cuisines by Tarla Dalal and Madhur Jaffrey from bookstores during India trips. They are still in the box that also has audio cassettes and CD's most prolly. : )

It is super depressing that I can recognize only two names in this list of ten famous Indian female chefs:
10 Indian Female Chefs Who Have Put Indian Cuisine on the World Platter I will need a takeout of vegetable dum biryani to cheer me up. Will ask for extra raita too.

I know 4 of them...not the rest. Maneet Chauhan's Chaatble is really good. I haven't tried Chauhan Ale and Masal but have heard nothing but rave reviews from my TN friends. If you are in Nashville, it's a must-try!

I saw YouTube videos he went to northeast states of India, hunted with local tribes and cooking with them. How much passion he has to explore corners of the world. Great.

All cultures of food preparation should
be preserved, from generations it was and it should .

All chefs are men, because probably from our ancient times, men were exceptional in cooking and it was one of the shastras which was taught, paakashastra..... Probably slowly they must have either ventured out to other departments or slowly must have realized that cooking is their true calling.

My father cooks really well, his pickles, vegetable rice are simply out of the world yet my craving is always for amma's food.

These days chefs are more into plating, decor, and how they got hold of a particular recipe, followed by some unwanted narration....

Sadham with pappu, nei, rasam and uralai kizhangu fry, is the ultimate comfort food..
