Your thoughts are exactly mine too dear! Hmmm.. here’s what the senators have said so far.

We asked every senator what action should be taken on guns. Here's what they said

Hopefully they will do something about this evil madness at least this time other than offering “ thoughts and prayers “.. Some of my colleagues are already considering fully moving to homeschooling, although that is not a permanent solution. It’s ridiculous this happens here, where they often talk about other country’s human rights violations. What do human rights mean here exactly ?

Mock ? Joke ? Adrenaline rush ? Sorry Balajee, adrenaline rush happens to people only looking for adventure and excitement in these kind of tragics. For people like me who came here to make a better life for their families with an average immigrant’s dream and for the families who lost their children aged between 7 to 10 this is not adrenaline rush but depression and paralysis for life.

I was not mocking the poor victims and future victims of further massacres that are likely to occur but only the administration that is totally impotent.

Gun culture of centuries old would be difficult to eliminate. In a fit or in paroxysm of anger a depressed or maniac man or woman or a boy or girl wielding gun always pose danger to society and therefore for self defence timid or otherwise others too obtain license and buy guns easily and trigger as and when they like.

if rest democracies can mange without this gun culture, USA too should be able to bring around its society to do away with it. It’s ubiquitous spread to academic campus and other institutions is highly risky.

    Dear Balajee,

It is a travesty to hold on to the second amendment rights as a holy constitutional rights in order to only offer thoughts and prayers to the innocent civilians consist of the children, teachers, church-goers, mall visitors, etc. on a regular basis. National Riffle Association is pretty strong in the US funding the election of many politicians. To the extent I know, most Democrats are standing tall with the people to bring some gun control legislation but unfortunately it is lying in the Congress because of lack of support as they need 2/3rd majority to amend the constitution. The House and Senate are always closely contested between the two political parties and the country is clearly divided into red states and blue states. Besides, when Republicans control the state, they redraw districts (known as Gerrimandering) in order to improve their chances of winning election in their respective states.

    The second amendment states:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
    The first amendment states:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petitition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Immediately after formation of the country in 1776, the country consisted of collection of groups from different walks of life and there was no police force enough to manage various groups and hence the second amendment was brought in to allow the citizens to protect themselves. While a political party is insisting on retaining this amendment in tact, another political party is bent upon reducing the funding to the police force as a punishment for harrassing the minority. In fact, the culture of drawing the gun and shooting with or without provocation perculates even to the police force.

In my view, it is only the public who needs to be blamed for these national tragedies. They should use the first amendment rights and petition the government for a redress of this particular grievance unanimously. To my knowledge, gun control is never the first issue in any political agenda as the people are more focused on inflation, birth control, economy, immigration and many others over gun control. Only way this national tragedy can be stopped when the citizens of the US gets united to petition the government and make it #1 election issue in the forthcoming election. If both political party become aware that whoever embraces gun control more will control the congress, then, they would yield to the sufferings of the innocent civilians. Unfortunately, it is difficult to have majority of the Americans to support gun control in every legislative districts throughout the US.

Note: Even if the second amendment right to be retained, what prevents political parties to get together to at least agree on a) mental health evaluation before purchasing the gun, b) background check, c) sell only the minimum deterrent ammunitions for purchase, etc.? The Florida governor is going on the opposite direction by brining in legislation to carry concealed guns by the citizens without a permit.

I would suggest your views sent to letters to the editor in NY Times. Better visibility would naturally draw attention of authorities to ponder over.
    Thanks and Regards.

Viswa, the second amendment also justifies private militias! (which probably were used to keep slaves un der check in an economy based on slavery) May be it was needed in those days of wild wild west when there was hardsly any policing but in 21st century? Granyed people4 can keep small arms for self defence against home invasuions but weapons that probably are used only in wars? That is way too much. But then US of A is ruled by the NRA , Every citizen should be trembling there while going shopping or dropping the kids at sachool. Herfe is a cinematic masterpiece that explores the gun culture.

Tygu sir the USA has never been able tio get out of the Cowboys and Indians mindset. Cowboys may change and Indians too but the mindset is the same. Instead of Indians (American Indians not Indian Americans) you had USSR abd the Warsaw bloc during the cold war, then there were the Vietnamee, north Koreans and of course the Cubans next door but the American mindset., They are addicted to having cowboys our cowboy substitutes and guns play a major role in this. This is a mindset that has been there since Independence and is unlikely to change. In my reply to Viswa, I have pasted a link to Michael Moore's documentary on gun culture. You can have a look.
