    Eienstein problem on speed

A car goes15 mph for1 mile. How fast must it go in the next mile to average 30 mph for the entire 2 mile trip.

Einstein was excited to say that it was indeed a very simple problem until he solved himself to see that the problem was tricky indeed

The second mile should be traveled at 90 MPH

The average of two different speeds required to be 30. That means sum of two speeds = 60. One speed is 15 given. So the other speed is 60 -15=45.
Am I right? If am right am I better than Eisenstein?!

You are correct, the answer is 60. I thought too much into this and made a silly error.

    :hello:
    Thanks for responding.

It looks your profound love is maths. Other followers of chose to skip responding here not because they hate it.

One more problem which went viral.

Two poles apart and a heavy electric cable tied bwetween their tops. The lowest point of the cable is 10’ above ground. The poles are 50' in height from ground. Find ground distance between poles.

    Wish you all the best.
    Regards.

Cable length to be taken as 80’.

    Very interesting problem Sir.

I immediately jumped into the mathematic mode and realized my lack of knowledge on using arcs for calculation. I had to cheat and search online.

Of course I found the answer that this problem does not need much math knowledge ( or usage of arcs or graphs ) to solve. But thanks for sharing. I enjoyed the problem.

I did find a problem where the distance from the ground was 20' instead and the formula was new to me. Good to learn something new.

    :hello:
Thanks for the response. Every solver, sooner or later or midway found the electric cable length between the poles and distance to its mid point from ground are irrelevant to find the fixed linear distance between the pole bottoms.

    :hello: PICK UP :hello:

Every morning, a couple from their home at A regularly travel by car on a straight road and spouse alight at her office at B. In the evening, DH returns by same car, pick up spouse at closing time of office.

On a particular day, the spouse office shuts at 4 pm. an hour earlier and so spouse instead of waiting for her DH to arrive, decides to walk toward home and met DH in car en route.

Reaching home, spouse finds that they had arrived home 20 minutes sooner than usual.
The question is for how long spouse walked and at what time they met?

 My method was "online search".
