Few days ago I made accounting error that cost in the thousands.

I spent hours checking and double-checking my work.

I was setting up specialist appointment and didn't see the address listed in provider directory. I opened a can of worms by asking if specialist is in network at location a-b-c. Insurance said no.

When I called specialist office, the appointment schedulers. said that specialist should be in-network, else the office would have called to advise otherwise.

It may be that the specialist is in network, and the location is an auxilarry to hospital, but now I
    1. opened a can of worms
    2. created more work for myself when I am pressed for time.

It seems that when I am trying to do good, or due diligence, I make the things worse.

What am i doing wrong? Did someone cast evil eye?

I know that as soon as I resolved to enjoy life by myself instead of getting married, all these things started to happen

If the insurance says no then you should listen to them. The doctor’s office may not have the latest information.

In the past, the Doctor's address was not listed in the insurance, but it was in-network.

Somehow i feel I am misunderstanding, or opening some sort of can of worms.

I contacted insurance and asked for clear-cut answer.

I don't know if this is a case of main hospital address being listed in directory, but where doctor practices is an auxilarry to the hospital, because hospital has so limited space.

However if it was one different private practice from another, then I can understand, because they are two separate entities.

Family went to this doctor so many times and in my infinite wisdom (sarcasm), I got paranoid about other things and pulled the bow of the arrow and asked.

You are actually doing really well. You have goals for yourself and are working toward fulfilling them. You have the right attitude about working toward your goals. You are slowly reaching milestones that you have set for yourself and will reach your final goals sometime.
You already are supporting yourself financially. You seem to have a nice hobby. You have a lot of things going right for you.
When you do feel stuck in a rut, I often do, just look and see how far you have come from just a couple of years ago. It’s hard for sure when things are not going your way. Don’t stress on things that go wrong. It’s ok. Be kind to yourself. This is just a road block and you will navigate it.

Regarding insurance, login to the insurance website and check if the doctor is in network. If he’s not, be thankful you checked proactively instead of being stuck with a large bill.

Sorry about the accounting error. Hopefully that will be a learning experience.

This sounds more like a process issue than something wrong with you. It happens to everyone actually. When you check and recheck your work several times within a short period of time, our mind knows so clearly what 'ought' to be there that even if it's missing on the page, it fills in the missing word or makes you think the wrong calculation is the right one. Something to do with the short term memory banks being full. We 'know' what we want to say or see so clearly we miss it's not actually on the page and skip over the mistakes. It happened to me with my sheriff's thread. I read and reread the posts so many times before pressing post, now after a week or so when I reread them I cringe to spot a missing word here or an awkward turn of phrase there. Of course it's too late to correct it now :)
Ways to fix it are 1. Check it once in a short period of time, then put it away and do something else. Come back next day or let it sit over the weekend and then check it again. Your short term memory banks will be full of something else so you will read it like it's someone else's work. If its due end of the day, check in the morning, let a few hours elapse and check again in the evening. You get the idea.
    2. Ask someone else to check it for you. Nothing like a fresh pair of eyes to spot mistakes. My kids used to ask me to proof their college essays way back when. Even now if it's important they email it to me for a quick once over.

I wouldn't beat myself up over the specialist. It's the new year, and clinics/ docs go out of network for various reasons. You did the right thing. If you didn't check and got a big fat bill you'd beat yourself up even more, right?

    You are right.

When we climb mountains, we fret when we slip, even if we catch ourselves in a nearby branch.

But we forget to look at the beautiful view and marvel how far we have come.

I was looking at my last and realize some people barely grew in the last 10 years. Lot if things happened in my life that yes, pushed me back, but ultimately propelled me forward.

Thankfully the accounting mistake was caught. I need to devise better safeguards so I don’t make such grave errors again.

As for insurance, website shows Doctor is in network.

Yes that is what I am thinking … short term memory.

    You explained it so well.

I think I am seeing things I ought to see. From now on I’ll print it out, put it away for a few days, then revisit it.

I was paranoid about the specialist due to other things. Luckily she is in network, my understanding of the process was incorrect.

Sometimes such things happen, don't link one thing to another.
