Have you watched the new series Decoupled?

Written by Manu Joseph, starring R Madhavan and Surveen Chawla, it is a comedy-satire on modern marriage and the problems of the upper class people. The lead pair has decided to divorce, are taking the steps towards it, but are still together for the sake of their daughter.

I was elated to come across the show in my FB feed. Felt like I found something great - a TV series starring Madhavan and none of my friends had yet talked about it. : )

Overall it has high reviews but it turned out to be the biggest disappointment for me. I did watch all the eight episodes but couldn't find anything that could be called a saving grace. Well, except that it starred Madhavan. : )

The "plot" or storyline is paper thin. I was not expecting a heart-wrenching or brutally honest examination of the marriage. Even a light-hearted superficial analysis would have been time-pass entertainment.

Instead I found each episode to be filled with humor that was simply awful. I don't know how all reviews are calling it "dark humor" and for the "intellectually inclined." Madhavan's character Arya makes fun of his wife's butt in exercise pants within their daughter's earshot. The misogyny and objectification of women that is displayed cannot be excused in any way. The story might demand such display but there are better ways to show adult men indulging in locker room talk or totally inappropriate comments.

Arya meets his ex girl-friend while she is seated in a car. He arranges to have the ex attend an event where he can show off his attractive ex to his wife. At the event, he and his pals realize that the ex has a very heavy bottom. They look for ideas to hide that. His pal springs out a saree to give to her. But there is no blouse. After a couple of such stupid ideas, they somehow get the lights to go off.

I must be missing something about the humor. I have never found a series to be so revolting.

Ya indeed it was disappointing. I was holding on to a thread hoping somewhere along the way the couple will fall for each other or show an amicable way to decouple while still staying cordial to each other. Nope !

the only thing I sort of liked was when Maasha came, Maddy was oggling at her. I was all :hearteyes::hearteyes: at his charm .

Yeah nothing great about the story too much body shaming but inspite of all those I had a good laugh only n only because of Maddy. Infact if it was anybody else in his character I would have hated the series n that character much more.

I just watched two episodes as of now and Maddy’s character is so rude or as the reviews say has a good sense of dark humor

I don’t know if the director thought to portray such a man so brazenly honest(?) is pretty cool..

I read that it's based on 'Curb your enthusiasm'. If friends or how I met your mother was remade as an Indian series I am not sure how many people will like the Desi version of Chandler or joey or Barney. Also in my own circle I saw people not liking the never have i ever series. I know for sure they would be ok if instead of the main character being Desi of it was a non desi called Suzy instead of Devi would have definitely liked it.

By the way why do these two want to divorce each other? They seem to be having some attraction towards each other and no major problems as such...

But some funny moments when his wife speaks of UTI when he is trying to entice her and the dad cussing the youngsters and rapping to ganapathy pappa moriya lol
