    I have been suffering with GERD on and off for nearly a decade. I tried taking medication and food control for months, the symptoms disappear but it comes back again the moment I start eating heavy or spicy.

    I could somehow control the burning sensation with strict "low spicy" and "home cooked" and "minimal backery" diet.
    Especially coke and pepsi were the culprits, and I have avoided them to a bare minimum level.

    When I am in severe heart burn, or stomach pain in relation to GERD, I consume chilled drinking yogurt which helps. But I do survive with Gaviscon during those moments.

    Over the years, I found out together with my physicians that the culprit behind my prolonged GERD is STRESS. Thanks to my very stressful managerial job, travelling and having to manage my family mostly from remotely. I am heavily stressed.

    When I was in Rwanda, I was blessed to spend months together in a very remote place, which was naturally calm and beautiful like heaven.
    I had ample time there to pray, meditate, do yoga, and to eat natural and fresh foods. The view of blue mountains, and chill breathe itself was enough to cure my mind and keep me stress free during those days. I swear, I didn't feel heartburn or anything then.

    But, it was just a short stay. Now I am back to square one.
    However, I do control my emotions and give enough time to sleep as lack of sleep is the other culprit.
    These days, thankfully I have less symptoms of heart burn and stomach pain. But constant indigestion, constipation or the urge to go to bathrooms, feeling full at night etc...
    I know it is also related to gastric, and I am trying my best to control the diet and stress to manage these symptoms.

    Madam,
    You have not mentioned about medications, Acid reflux is due to increased secretion of HCL acid. Drugs to reduce acid secretion is a must and it should be taken for prolonged periods like in my case .(I am a retireddoctor ). For the past six to seven years I am on continued drugs which inhibits secretion of HCL. Many drugs are available. Some with prescription( in USA) and some across the counter.( In India all drugs freely available across the counter.)By trial and error you can adjust suitable diet for you.

    Basically symptoms are due to reflux of gastric acid back into oesophagus, gastric acid is highly strong( pH around 2.5). Reduce acid secretion not by neutralising the acid, but by reduction in secretion.To name some drugs( pantprazole,omiprazole.rabiprazole, Zantac,Pepsid,ranitidine( banned in USA)
    Advanced age does not reduce acid secretion. If drugs does not alleviate do consult gastric enterologist. I am not sure if effective medicines are available in homeopathy. May be there I have not tried. Patience and perseverance is a must. For long term disease long term treatment.

    :hello: @SGBV Dr @gopalan1937
    @indubalram
    @priyanka123456
    Thanks for the post, inputs and responses.
    my daughter complained of her suffering with acid reflux, I suggested her besides avoiding spicy stuff, she must make it as a habit to have நார்த்தங்காய் salted one. Secondly, avoid late night meals and always stick to timely eating i.e. to say commence eating lunch or supper just when you begin to get appetite. Eating after long time or failure to eat as soon as appetite build up seemed to result in drowsiness indigestion and prolong the period of digestion.

    2. I keep sufficient stock of நார்த்தங்காய் (N) and with ever meal I chew this piece of N. I suggested this remedy for this malady to many chronic sufferers from Acid Reflux and they in turn after following for a month .org so reports good relief.

    3. A recliner seat for nap or siesta or higher pillow in night after every meal seem to do world of good. During olden days I have seen oldies used to sleep or relax On a recline made of teak wood probably to avoid this nagging acid reflux.
    4. I endorse @umaakumar suggestions too.
    A good read on N available in the link

    Well said. Stomach full is seemed to be bad. Foods during digestion tend to produce certain gases and a little volume for their circulation in upper and lower regions of stomach should be available to enhance comfort level after finishing with supper or lunch.
    Thanks and Regards.

    Addendum to#18:
    • Gut health: There is no medical evidence to support that sleeping on one side is better than the other. However, the location of the stomach is a clue. The stomach’s natural position is on the left side, where it can digest food more effectively. Gravity helps the waste travel from the small intestine to the large intestine.
    • Help with heartburn: People who experience heartburn might benefit from sleeping on their left side, as right-side sleeping relaxes connecting muscles between the stomach and the esophagus, or food pipe. When these muscles contract, they help control the acid reflux process. ResearchTrusted Source has shown a higher likelihood of acid reflux from sleeping on the right side.
