What do you think of such over sink dish drying racks?

Useful? Not useful? Any pros and cons?

This showed up in results when I was looking for other sink related stuff.

I am tempted to get one for the space it will free up but worry about the rusting as they are only made of metal. Another thing is if the water from the wet dishes dripping all over the sink will make it messy. My sink has huge windows, so this rack will block view and make that area look "crowded."

I badly want to try one : ) I like the scrubbers etc can be stored in the rack. But returns for such items are a pain due to assembly.

Wondering if anyone tried one and like or dislike it?

I too fell in love with the idea of this, initially.

But as you pointed out, I did not go through as I felt that it will crowd the area and will become irritating very soon and the feeling of tidy will be lost.

This will be an obstruction and if you have a open kitchen it will be even more worser.

Just looking at the pics makes me feel claustrophobic. It's useful if you're really pressed for space, but there are other options like the roll-up racks or the dish drying mats or even the collapsible racks.

I enjoy my kitchen window too much to block it with this thing.

I have a small kitchen so I decided to pass on these. I don’t like having things exposed on the counter. Dirty dishes go directly into the dishwasher and clean dishes are put away promptly. If I need to hand wash I dry it promptly. All I have near the sink are a brush/sponge holder and a bottle of hand soap.
My mom on the other hand loved this and took them back home for herself, aunt and SIL.

Thanks guys. I was about to order one with the "can always return it" frame of mind but will desist. It is just too mind-numbing to go to UPS or elsewhere to return stuff in this cold weather.

I agree about the view blocked and crowded, claustrophobic feel.

I am going to try this - dirty dishes straight into dishwasher and dry dishes put away promptly. Right now, due to the many involuntary helpers at home, the sink is emptied only at workers-union negotiated hours. While unloading the dishwasher, a dish with even one drop of water in it is plonked in the dish drying stand. Every few weeks, I have the lovely task of clearing hard water deposits from that stand and its water catcher tray. Not to forget the dust and grime under it. Family see me do it for thirty minutes while music is playing and seem to think I enjoy the task. Well, I digress.

I can understand why it would be a hit with kitchens in India. My dad had built one such wall-mounted dish stand for my mother and it was the talk of the neighborhood for years. : ) In fact, half the reason I almost ordered it yesterday was nostalgia!

BTW, just this morning I was imagining my bathroom with no bath rugs and thought of you. : ) I so wish I could do away with bath rugs. Just to step on one now gives me an icky feeling.

Ah, nostalgia! I remember those wall-mounted dish racks in the days long before modular kitchens became ubiquitous. They were surprisingly well-designed with slots for plates, tumblers, ladles and so forth. One house would get it and then all the ladies would nag their husbands till they had it too.
