I think you can start cow's milk as an ingredient sure. Signs of allergy - vomiting, loose stools, rashes following milk intake. Its highly unlikely that she would be allergic to it if she's able to take cheese, curds without any trouble. Also she is not a generally allergy-prone baby is she? Do you have milk allergy in the family? As a matter of curiosity why is your pedi witholding egg yolk until 1?

No, we haven't had any issues with food allergies so far, and nobody has milk allergy in either of our family. I have no idea why she asked us to hold off on the egg yolk. When asked she said after one year is the safest. She knows I have asthma, that could be it but not too sure.

that's strange. In my country doctors suggest that babies younger than 1 year can have egg yolk, but not egg white. Egg white can (supposedly) cause allergies. (I have a son of 16 months, maybe I'll start a thread on different views of the topic...)

that's the case everywhere I don't know why our pedi said so! Riya had a cold and was fussy when we were there last time so I didn't question her much on that. And then got busy with family's visit and such, maybe it's time to give her call and hear an explanation.

I just got a call from the Pedi's office. She was busy, so her asst. called and said the reason she asked me to hold off on the yolks was due to the reason that they can cause allergy issues later on. But she also added that at this point it's more our choice whether to feed her yolks or not. When asked, she said there's nothing in Riya's file that points to any health issue and avoiding egg yolks.

So now I am confusedbonk Vanathi, what are the chances of getting an egg allergy if I start Riya on yolks?

i am logging in after a long time.
my daughter is 9 month old & our pedi also advised to hold off egg yolk till she turns 1. She said meats, fish(white) & egg yolk can trigger allergy reactions later on. Also said its up to us to decide. All pedi's are the same...? I am confused & going to hold off till she is one.. I know egg yolk has lot of proteins.. can i substitue with tofu?is it safe to introduce now?

Minimal I think. In a healthy child without a family/past history of allergies I am not inclined to be extra-cautious. Thats how I am with Aadhu and so far things have been fine (although I get a lot of flak from relatives about my too-casual attitude with regard to food).

Oh, Vanathi, this may sound stupid but is it okay to separate the eggs just like that or even with a separator (normally I don't use a separator)? Or do I have to be really careful that no white gets in the yolk?
