    Hi ladies,
I am basically looking for some comfort here. We as family were looking forward for a vacation that we planned 2 months back. My kids were also excited since we were traveling and vacationing with other friends who have kids of same age group. Due to health issues we might now have to cancel our vacation (3 days before) and my kids are extremely upset about it. I am also very upset but I am unable to console my 8 year old who kept crying all day saying why did this happen to us, why is it that everyone gets to go and not we. I am at loss of words to explain her. We spent lot of time shopping, packing and planning for the vacation last month and even I feel sad that it is all ruined :-(

If I was 8 years old and trip was cancelled at last minute, I would hope that my parents do something to compensate for it.

    Perhaps in near future.

I faced similar disappointment when I was around that age. Unfortunately my parents said that train went off the tracks, we need to get train on the track, not fix the air conditioner.

I was upset and depressed the whole summer. Perhaps it still effects me in ways I do not know. Perhaps when I see golden opportunity, I snatch it even though there are red flags.

Please do something to compensate for your 8 year old. I dunno what that is. The Mommies on this board can chime in.

Don't try to explain that disappointment is part of life, etc, etc. to an 8 year old. She was already bitten by this, no need to salt her wounds.
