I have only one daughter who is married. Should I keep working till my end life or what? I had been working from the age of 21 and I continue to work. Now I’m in USA . I feel I have done enough. Please advice.

Could you tell us more? What is your age (app) ? And why exactly do you feel that way?

Issues as in kids or problems? What is your concern? Is something making you feel sad?

Consult with financial planner and see if you have enough savings for retirement.

I wudn't recommend to quit the job and wonder how to kill the time. Figure your passion/interest you wish to pursue after retirement and start working on it side by side with your job. If you still feel the need to leave your work to give time to your passion then decide.

IMO, empty nester keeping themselves occupied most hours in a day would be good for their mental health.

Did the op mean what you said? I am not so sure I got the full picture. @indubalram, how is your life in your daughter's house? 56 is old but not very old. As long as you can, please try to be independent even if it's your own daughter you are planning to depend on. One never knows how people change. You will not have much independence in a foreign country unless you can manage all alone. Talk to your daughter and son-in-law after gauging the situation and making sure it's okay. You don't want to be in a tight spot at this point in life. Health insurance is a big problem in USA. If you don't know driving, you can't go anywhere on your own. I am sure you will be aware of it by now. Weigh your options before making any life altering decision.

At least you feel like this now, this is happening around much earlier for the next generation. Future is always unpredictable. And always, new generation is more motivated to work. Some of us also want to call it a day. But we also know that it is not practical and it's not possible nowadays. Anyhow, it is your call at the end of the day. As someone mentioned, plan your retirement. Assess your personal situation and financial strength. If you can afford to retire with whatever you have and can maintain with your savings for the rest of your life, great. Assuming you are healthy, you should be planning for at least 15-20 years into the future.

So, dont make it competitive if YOU dont like it!
"Find what you love doing and you will never work a single day in your life"

I start my maths classes at 9 am and even till 9pm, I still get calls from parents and messages from students! You think there is no dearth of maths teachers? Every gali has at least 10 advt of maths classes...

I never get tired because every single time, I feel very contented and satisfied when I see the realization on the student's face that this sum is so easy and he/she can do it!

Recently I'm an empty nester too - my son will leave for college whenever covid allows - I would definitely go crazy if I didnt have my classes and interactions with parents looking for education paths and career paths...
When I do career counselling sessions, a lot of moms who have left their jobs to raise the kids - they also want to find out what they can do - I say the same thing - find what you love doing.. find what you can do very well and combine the two.

Who do you want to compete with? Why do you want to compete? Work from your point of strengths and let others work from theirs...

If you still want to discontinue and you have the financial means to leave your job, at least plan a fall back career where it is not so competitive or it is something you love doing day in and day out...

You will "work" not to keep yourself "engaged" but to feel "fulfilled and contented" - doesnt have to be paying work if you dont need the money!

I would suggest, if your finances allow it - and you have the confidence to re-enter - take a break, find yourself, decide what you want to do and then make that happen!
