    For many, Diwali is the most important festival of the year. This year, more than ever, it feels vital to take a moment to focus on the significance of the festivities. May your days this week and in the coming year be filled with reflection and small but cumulative victories: light prevailing over darkness, good ultimately winning over evil, and knowledge triumphing over ignorance.

    We must simply ignore the controversies that the media inevitably generates. Focus on the positive, go out of our way to find the positive, and be the positive. And, if you read posts that do this, please nominate them for FP. : )

    Happy November, folks. Hope yours is filled with peace, joy and thankfulness.

    The Indus valley is rightly called as the birth place of civilization. India is also called as the melting pot of races. When we think of the culture of India, we can't isolate one specific culture or festival or event because we are the only country in the world to have so many different people living there as one India.

    Yesterday, the teacher from school asked me to send in a write up about the Indian festival of lights. Even a small write-up for a group of elementary aged kids was difficult because we have so many different cultures that celebrate it for different reasons. Yet, the essence is the same. The message is the same. It signifies the triumph of good over evil, of light over darkness and of knowledge over ignorance. India is a conglomerate of so many different cultures and traditions and yet every neighbor regardless of if they celebrate Diwali or not will get a dabba of sweets from someone who celebrates. We do believe in sharing our sweets!

    @Gauri03 has beautifully summarized the positives in her response Hate Begets Hate

    We are bombarded by things in the media that we cannot ignore but just looking at her post gives me the positivity. I couldn't have put things in perspective as eloquently as Gauri. Perspective is everything and she has given us some key points to ponder on. India is a safe progressive nation and we want to keep it moving along. She has brought hope and positivity with her post and I'd like to nominate it for FP.

    Self-doubt and guilt over past decisions and actions can trouble the most confident of us. It takes courage to put one's misgivings out there in the open and ask for feedback as @indubalram has posted in Dilemma And Issue Within My Life

    Thank you Viji for bringing this post to FP. Many of us can relate to such critical self-examination and the helpful responses in the thread.

    A lot can be said about the need for women to be financially and emotionally independent before taking the big step of marriage. But DDream's words put a whole new perspective on it:
    "Be the person you want to marry, before searching for potential partners. "

    That one short sentence holds so much wisdom in it.

    @Rihana,

    I second @Laks09's nomination of @Gauri03's response Hate Begets Hate. It is imperative to understand the history of India and how different religions integrated together in one nation with different cultural background. She has showcased this Bharatia culture of tolerance, ability to remain secular, and acceptance of people from other religions. In fact, the country remained neutral even when some religions originated in India resembling a lot of Sanatana Dharma. One has to understand how it feels as a minority ethinicity, race, religion to experience what goes in their minds, especially when hate is practiced by the majority.

    Couldn't agree more with you Laks. Perspective is vital. Gauri's response in Hate Begets Hate provides many points for the reader to reflect upon. The thinking that starts when reading the post continues well after one is done reading. We might not arrive at answers, but we do end up with a deeper insight and glimmers of hope.
