For getting a general chart for following healthy diet and to lose some weight should we consult a dietitian or nutritionist?

@abc00 the question uppermost in the mind ought to be “ what has contributed to the excess weight and for how long it has been?”

Once answers for this on hand, it is easy to decide the course andwho is to be consulted. Lest any specialist can indiscriminately could prescribe anything .

Is it lack or excess of hormone(s) production? Is it genetic? Is it hereditary?
Is it timing of food? It it due to siesta?

Is it due to lack of sleep or oversleeping? Is it due to wrong combination of food? Is it the after or side effect of taking prescribed or otherwise tabs?

Or binge eating? Or some kind of depression or stress, so on & so forth. There is no magic wand ! Do you seek Reduction in muscle mass?

    Thanks for the question. Regards.

Thanks for replying. I hope 'one' more like from me will make you happy. I have a simple answer to all your questions - none of the above. I like to keep weight in check and maybe just 3 kgs above BMI which is what I'm looking to knock off and build some lean mass through proper strength training. So whom to consult ....hope you got my question now.

Thanks & yes thanks for the Like too.!
In that case, my suggestion would be to consult both for better evaluation.
    Regards.

Both ? Nah...I would just consult one for a single path. Two professionals would add up to the confusion.

A dietician being registered and licensed seems like a better choice to me. Nutritionists in my state at least don't need to be registered and don't need to meet certain credentials. I think the qualifications depends from state to state. In the course of my running, I did consult with a nutritionist specializing in a runner's diet. I did delve into her BG and she didn't have a degree. Being a runner herself and experiencing various diets and long run supplements, she just gave advice based on her experience. I honestly felt I got more out of the threads on this forum than from her. Only later did I realize the distinction between a dietician and a nutritionist.

That being said, since you have only 3 kgs to lose and have a goal of strength training, if you don't have other underlying health issues, just experimenting with your macros and total calories may help you. Even if you are going to a dietician, start logging your food so she has an understanding of your daily calorie intake, your exercise regimen and your current macros. That will help her tweak your diet and help you see results.

@Laks09 I loved the first part of your reply. I will definitely follow the tips you mentioned. Yes, consulting a registered dietitian makes more sense. Thanks.
