    Every year I attend with my husband but unfortunately, due to some reasons one of us may have to stay back home with my kid.

    I know it is good for both the parents to attend but when since one of us cannot make it this year..is it ok?

    Is it mandatory for both the parents to attend BTSN?

    No, it’s not mandatory. Many people attend to meet the other parents and socialize but if you cannot it’s okay.

    Schools are unable to make masks mandatory, where will they make parents at BTSN mandatory.

    Some moms though might tell the dad it is mandatory just to make him go. : ) I vaguely remember I found it useful to have H there one year as I had a weird question or two to ask the teacher and told H it would be better coming from him. : ) My friend who was also in the classroom sitting on the low chairs almost burst out laughing as she knew no way my H could have come up with that question. I do remember he had dropped me off and came back after finding parking so he was sitting quite away from me. There were enough desis in the room for temporary anonymity and to look at H like I didn't know him or the question. : )

    Looking back, all the BTSN were pretty much a waste of time and hassle of figuring out where to leave the younger kid. The only useful thing was that the parent-teacher-conference sign-ups used to be there and I could choose a convenient time. And, it helped to know how the classroom inside looked like and small things like reading area and getting some idea of the teacher's personality.

    The most annoying part used to be the Asian parents who used to crowd the teacher after the presentation and make it a parent-teacher-conference about their kid while others waited patiently to ask teacher a quick question. This in spite of the principal announcing over the PA system that it was not the time to conference with the teacher.

    I stopped going to BTSN around 4th grade, IIRC. Never went to middle school ones and in high school only went to one or two specific teachers classrooms.

    @anika987 you asked a true/false question, I wrote a 5-paragraph essay. LOL. Am not sorry. : )

    LOL.. this year’s BTSN is the one that you actually don't want to attend with so much confusion on mask mandates and what not. Our child’s school offered online one which I gladly attended.
    @Rihana I must say you are way too cool and in real life I would kill to have an experienced mom like you around ! Sometimes the fanatic asian parents around me make me wonder if I even qualify as a parent.

    True. With most classrooms still being window-less, schools should all be offering an online version of the BTSN while it is happening at school.
    : ) This is anika's thread, so we can happily go off topic. I was that frantic Asian parent until .. well.. I stopped being one. :buenrollo: I started to hide from other parents and used to pick up my kid(s) at the small gate near the playground to avoid meeting moms at pickup time. Got a cell phone for my younger one as soon as possible and started the "walk home yourself" practice.
