Ladies and Gents, I wanna thank you for your participation in previous post. It helped me a lot lot lot Suggest Large, Lightweight Tote Bag With Many Zippers | Indusladies

Now, I need your help with note taking.

So far I use several mini binders and multi colored pens to take notes. For instance if I am taking to Insurance Company about what they said and what they actually did (which is a whole separate thread), I write it down in mini binder.

Once the case is resolved I put the bunch of papers in storages. But so much paper is getting accumulated. I feel bad if I have to throw it out because I spent so much $$$ on paper and colorful pens. I use metallic pens on black papers.

But lot of times I struggle to remember what I wrote where.

What is the best way to take and retain notes.

I googled this and I see Twitter CEO has onenote on his iphone. Twitter CEO Says His Best Productivity Tool Is a Free iPhone App (businessinsider.com)

But that is super expensive (but he can afford it)

I am looking for inexpensive alternative. Plus Apple likes to make their product break so you have to go out and buy a new one.

Sorry, I am at my wits end amidst this pile and pile of paper!!!

I keep folders on my computer for all documents, a different one for each category. I also use Notes on my iPhone but that’s more for jotting things down immediately and keeping lists of tasks.
iPhones are overpriced IMO but I have not had any issues with reliability.

Ditto except for taking notes on my Phone. Instead I jot down on a post-it note and dispose it once the job is done. If I think I will need the info latter or if it has important dates, phone numbers etc I will take a picture of the post-it note and dispose the note itself. My laptop is full of folders full of pictures marked year-wise :) The search bar at the bottom-left corner of my laptop is my bestie, helps me find "car service xyz" or "school fee abc" in a jiffy :) Usually, upto a quarter or two even are on my phone and beyond that are in the laptop.

I too use notes on my iPhone that’s more for just quick notes. Other than notes spreadsheet is my favorite. I have maintained one spreadsheet to add every expenses related to property maintenance & repairs, renters info, renewals, contractors info and other things. To-do list & other miscellaneous tasks like calling bunch of plumbers to check price quote and their availability, or the conversation with them I just add in a separate spreadsheet, on completing the task or when i find the right plumber I just deleted that rest of the rows leaving the right plumber information. Every bills, warranty, insurance information, lease copies and other things I scan and save in respective folders on my laptop. Every time when I update something I save a copy on OneDrive as well on my external hard drive. When I am outside and needed any info OneDrive comes in handy.

This is really helpful. I guess I felt that computer was not too accessible, but when I heard Twitter guy is doing this, I thought, "hey, why not"

I also use post it notes. My concern is throwing them away afterwards because they are expensive.

I started pasting old post it noted with diluted modge podge onto plain muslin cloth. I was hoping to make quilt out of it.

When I get the time, when I get the time.

I really like taking photo of post it. I wonder if we can add tags to photos so they are searchable on computing device.

If it helps, all my post it notes are free because they are the blank side of grocery bills, one side printed letters or notices, envelopes cut open "inside out", basically any paper that enters our household is automatically nominated to participate and win the contest to be a post-it note, a new life and purpose for it's existence if you will :) I guess you get the drift :) This is my tiny little contribution towards making our living on this planet sustainable :)

Interesting question. Never thought about it because if I had to save an image of this conversation itself, the title would be, "my response to Sui thread on post-it notes" and I can retrieve it by entering Sui or post-it in the very helpful search box sitting at the bottom-left of my screen :) I guess in my case we can say "title is the new tag" :)

I specially went out and bought colored post its. Rainbow color, black color (for metallic pens). I really thought I was the organizing queen (few weeks later they became hard to manage!)

I like that - title is the new tag
