    Viswa, obviously, your spiritual inclinations are beginning to interfere with your appreciation of 21st-century priorities. Parents are the least important part of the equation. Think Google Embryo, FB-Fetus, Amazon Utero - these are the ones who will be doing the embedding! :lol:

    @sokanasanah,
    Perhaps if someone dies surfing, they may have a smartphone in the fetus. :blush:

    A complete western terms and discussions. I'm a SBOA,DPS,CPS types :wave1: Kids in abroad have good(great exposure) than kids in India, is it! Just had a rough evening teaching kids 1 chapter in math and exhausted for tomorrow already! How do you all focus on your kids academics consistently, I need motivation to do that firstly :rolleye:
    Kudos to all supermoms!

    Congratulations! Enjoy the feeling. When they are really young and just beginning to discover their talents is the best part.
    You have already started noticing areas where he’s starting to lag. I bolded those. Keep an eye on those and stay on top of it.

    One mistake parents often make which I made also was worry about providing enough intellectual stimulation. They find that on their own, or the school will provide it. But profoundly gifted kids do lag in some other areas which we don’t consider initially. And as they go into middle school and later those qualities become important for them to develop into happy independent and functional.

    Also keep an eye on how he transitions to the smart school. Around this age is when kids form a self image of being able to grasp things quicker than their peers and feel profoundly threatened or anxious when that gets taken away because now all are just as bright as they are.
    On the whole there will be great moments in your journey as well as moments you never envisioned and wonder ‘how the heck did we end up here?’ But it all works out in the end.

    Good luck!

    @1Sandhya,

    Remarkable pointers. I have noticed it with a few and not always. It is exception than normal. I have noticed them lagging in other areas but they are convinced that it is lack of interest than lack of skill set. How do we make them overcome this huddle?

    I have also noticed them enjoying their status of gift until they see peers performing as well as them. How do we make them overcome this?

    Any suggestions?

    Well I don’t think they’re remarkable at all. Maybe it’s a different point of view. Every mother would ultimately want to help navigate their child safely to adulthood and to a well adjusted, happy, functional and independent status, gifted or not. Rather every parent I should say. I just replied to her with that POV.

    As to suggestions, I am not an authority, all I can offer is anecdotal.

    As to Q2: What I observed is that these kids are not conscious of effort or doing anything different. They just do or say what comes naturally to them and therefore the tag of ‘gifted’ is something some of them struggle with. Others, and yes it depends on personality definitely, get used to it. They are very smart you know and they pick up on our reactions though we try to hide it. And being kids they just accept it as the way things are.

    As to Q1: The usual parental struggle of teaching a kid study systematically, learn to be disciplined, be organized, dealing with frustrations is still there, it just arrives later. They encounter it at a higher level not at the, say abc level, but at whichever higher level they top out at. Because even though the early learning comes to them easily and they skip a grade or two ultimately they will reach a grade level where they just don’t know and need to learn like the rest.

    @1Sandhya,

    I used a wrong word "remarkable" and as you said different point of view might have been appropriate. Many parents miss the points you had mentioned.

    I am so glad I started this thread. It has helped me calm my nerves a lot.

    We had our first session with a Davidson Academy counselor yesterday. Thanks to this thread and an extremely well organized DA website, I felt very calm and prepared for this meeting.
    Through out this week I listened in the Ambassador program projects and I was blown away by the teenagers and their passion about solving the real world problems. The world is in good hands!

    OMG @nuss thanks a gazillion for this thread. I was always interested in this topic because of my own child. May your gifted kids find their calling soon! :)
