When I make coffee, I heat up Whole Milk and add instant coffee, cocao, and ground Mishri Now I also add one teaspoon of coconut milk (Jamaican Choice Coconut Milk). I barely get flavor from coconut milk. Please recommend brand of coconut milk in USA that has no added chemicals. Plus it should taste natural, like coconut.
Chaokoh is the brand I find tastes the best. You will not get any flavor with just one teaspoon though.
Shall appreciate health benefits if any recorded here if fresh coconut milk is added in addition to regular cow or buffalo milk to blended coffee.
I don’t think there’s any special health benefit to adding coconut milk. I remember my mom avoiding coconut while cooking because they were concerned about cholesterol.
and I believe there are some health benefits Health Benefits of Coconut Milk and Coconut Cream Lower Cholesterol Eating coconut milk could improve your cholesterol levels. In one study, people who consumed coconut milk lowered their LDL or "bad” cholesterol while their HDL or "good” cholesterol increased. Healthy cholesterol levels are important for heart health. Weight Loss Coconut milk and cream are sources of healthy fats called medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). Several studies have found that consuming MCTs promotes weight loss by decreasing appetite and increasing energy.
There are two types of coconut milk. The culinary coconut milk that comes in cans primarily and the drinking ones that come in cartons. The culinary ones are used in curries etc and have the flavor of coconut milk. The drinking coconut milk doesn’t have the smell or flavor of coconut milk. The culinary coconut milk also is higher in fat content. You probably don’t want to drink that daily in your coffee. Instead of adding it to your coffee, you could drink it in a smoothie or add it to oatmeal if you really think it is beneficial for you. You can also substitute it for milk in chia pudding, refrigerated oatmeal etc.
Ohh, this one, Jamaican Choice, came in a can. When I keep in fridge the top layer is semi-solid. There is faint taste of coconut.
You will find conflicting studies about the use of coconut/coconut milk/coconut oil and the cholesterol lowering/heart healthy benefits. I’m not sure it’s definitive. MCTs only available naturally in coconut products is very beneficial for people with certain autoimmune conditions. For the rest of us, I’m still not convinced of the MCT benefits of coconut usage. MCTs with a ketogenic diet helps in weight loss but I’m not sure of the weight loss benefits of MCT without keto or lowering overall calories. All said, I use a ton of coconut and cook with coconut oil because I’m used to this kind of cooking.
My micro preemie got pure MCT oil mixed in his bottle for weight gain in the NICU. It is supposed to be very effective for babies to gain weight.
