Unfortunately vaccination has become a political issue between Union (BJP control) and the states not controlled by the same party.

When there were not many vaccine takers, and the vaccination venues were not at all crowded, opened vials that had doses remaining in it cannot be used beyond the recommended open-time. These got tossed in trash. A million doses is a lot to go in trash - but this estimate could be political hyperbole as well. It is a mess.

The states that waste the vaccination should be fined and the money should be used for vaccination program.

Ha..ha...ha... This is an old civil service technique of haphazardly funded government programs: Toss half the vaccines (or sell them to private operatives), and get the money to buy syringes, and hire nurses to inject the other half. However, if there was ever a plan to "fine" governments, it would be hilarious to set the rules for the Fine Scheme, an Administrative Function (directorate of fines ? :grinning:) to implement and supervise that to make sure that the money is not pilfered or siphoned off to something else.

Governments wasting resources isn't unique to India. All governments spend a significant level of money to make sure there is no waste of government money. Eventually, after all the suitable checks are implemented for proper compliance of all the rules, what money gets through to the actual program would be quite minimal.

If all (or most) of the population of the world (India as well) is infected with covid-19, go through the disease, lose about 2% of the population to death (the worst case scenario averaging most countries who have suffered lots of deaths), with the rest developing natural immunity to future infections, we'd all be OK on the planet.

That said, no political leader who might want to face a reelection, could openly concede to her/his population that infection-convalescence, with a loss of 2% is the national plan of (in)action. Just not deemed the right message to send. However, it is pretty naive of news organizations to ignore that possibility, and go on a lament in reportage, like this one:

@Minion I had noticed that you were concerned about Hindi-stanis trying to foist their language on non-hindi people. In this video, supposedly in English language, several Hindi speakers cannot stick to English. This sort of thing does not happen when a Telugu or Tamil wallah is broadcasting in English. There is no wonder that everyone in India may be looking forward to vaccine-free culling of the population to strengthen the human stock for the future.

She is reporting from a Hindi speaking region so it is un-avoidable.

    When
    • the purveyors of India's vaccine are oligopolistic (only a few, no price competition)
    • the approver is monopolistic (only the union government approves what vaccine should be sold in India)
TN's finance minister says the current situation in India is a dire emergency when the country has to take emergency measures.

What’s wrong with the Delhi government hospital? If the nurses speak among themselves in their language so what? Rather than getting distracted from these issues they should focus on how to improve manage the pandemic and associated post covid problems.
Delhi government hospital tells nurses not to speak in Malayalam

Here a person was air lifted to Kerala and got treated there because of poor management in Delhi. Instead of focusing on such issues and what went wrong, they are focusing on language which the nurses speak among themselves?!

Malayalee nurses are in most NewYork hospitals, and they speak in Malayalam among themselves. Indonesian maids in HongKong apartment complexes speak neither English nor Chinese when they meet in corridors, elevators, or go out shopping in the afternoons. For itinerant laborers this helps keep their morale up in admittedly horrid working conditions. Hospital admins probably recognize that, but they have to also make fake gestures to please their patient clients who might have complained that the nurses' Hindi sounds to them like Malayalam.

Is there a serious accent problem when Malayalees, Tamils, Telugus, Kannadigas speak Hindi ? [ I was amused to hear the Keralite patient talk about "moving his coat" away [2'20" on video] from the direct cold air blast from Airconditioning in the video from #579]. As far as i know, Hindi does not have such cot (cawt)<==>coat problem for malayalees.
