So much ado about a weekend trip!
OP is not going on a months-long yatra with these people. Just take some extra shelf-stable foods that you can eat even later on, some fruit and lots of beverages and go with the mindset that you’ll have a good time.

Wondering how everyone in the US buying their groceries or shopping at present. We have started going to stores & standing line with masks on, I thought everyone started doing same.

I believe store-bought items come in a sealed package and I am sure the rotis too packed in a container or a bag.

I have been going in person to grocery stores this whole time, but my county has recently dropped mask mandates and lifted capacity restrictions. Stores have also relaxed their rules.

    Hi @Vedhavalli

I can understand your apprehensions about the trip and they are very valid. I just wanted to add one other issue that you may face- this would be the first long weekend after the long COVID scare and new CDC guidelines, I personally know a lot of people planning a trip, so am guessing this may be a pretty busy weekend at most places. Getting a table to eat or even take out for a big group with 5 families may be a very difficult thing, all the more harder with young kids.
If I were you, I would buy at least a few packs of bread, peanut butter, jam, ketchup. Get some fruits, trail mix and other snacks. Pack them all in a bag and leave it in the car if safe (no bears in the park) or take it to your room and back everyday. If you have these in the car, you can stop for a picnic between hikes and have them when hungry. Do not have to wait around for others if they aren’t keen on joining in

    Hey vedhavalli,

Looks like you are a planner, like sto think ahead and sometimes planners have to lead as well and looks like your group needs that. If I were you, I would simply put out there that
    a. you like planning
    b. you will bring a bag of rice/rice cooker (ask one more person to bring the cooker), puliyogre mix - for just in case oopsies scenario
    c. ask someone to volunteer for bread and PBJ stuff
    d. ask someone to volunteer for chips/butter milk?
    e. ask someone to carry some/plenty kid friendly snacks
    f. don't forget water - even empty waterbottles to fill for hike.
    g. you carry what you need for your kids, most certainly

My point being, even if no one brings anything, you would have done the smart thing of rice and mix. Understandable it is not appealing to cook - hey but with what you describe, it seems like a short trip, away from civilization and to make best of nature around you, it is the best you could do. If you put the logistics of food behind, you can simply have a wonderful time, even if others may not participate fully.

    Have a fantatsic time!

The trip for my family went well but with others few glitches were there.
Day 1 - morning went in drive
For lunch 3 families kept discussing where to eat lunch, at last they decided a pizza place. That delayed more than a hour. Luckily I had packed lunch. When we said we will go to place where water falls is there and have lunch. They were visibly not okay. Again I say lack of planning. 1 family had a new car they didn't want to ear pizza inside the car.
After eating 3 family were not ready for 0.8 mile walk to see a water fall. They wanted to take rest.
Finally it was sundown, when all were ready.
I waited for 1hr but my kiddo & another family were in rush to see water fall and play in water.
I had to take my child there instead of waiting for others. Other family joined me.
Rest of them started after we were almost done.
Again dinner was a turmoil, kids were hungry their moms bought fruits but kids wanted to eat something else. So dad's were hunting for fast food joints, since it's far away from town. I brought homemade teplas, I offered to kids their mom's denied. 1 kid didn't bother mom got it from me.
Other kids had to get sandwiches from a vending machine in a gas station. we reached the airbinb spot we freshendup had our dinner.
Next day - one family & we hiked for 4-5 miles to see sunrise from a cliff..others didn't join.
We had ready to eat food for next day so we kept sight seeing entire park. 3 other families didn't join any activity apart from drive thru places.
It didn't feel like a group outing overall. Me & my child had a great time with other kids playing in streams climbing in trees.
But others moms had sulked face except 1 lady. Irony is whenever we took group pics they were acting like besties, but wouldn't join to see places or walk together.
3 kids cried in hunger again I offered bread jam. The moms couldn't accept they said wait we will eat "fresh food" I got upset, hearing that, bread was fresh .
Internet was spotty almost no signal in phones
One mom openly asked me "why did you bring food, we were supposed to eat outside?". I said its away from a basic town that's why I kept telling to buy ready to eat but you insisted to get a Airbnb with full kitchen, we can't cook after a long tiring day.
    She didn't speak after that.
Overall it's learning to men out there not bring a group of persons without proper planning. They should listen to others or at least browse beforehand.

Live and learn. As long as you and your child had a good time I’d count it as a win. At least you were well-prepared. Next time send the men alone on a guys trip. :wink1:
