Yes.. I did follow up on what would happen because of a few thousand bodies in the River Ganga, and buried in the sandbanks of the river. The river will flood during July-September period, and all the sandbanks would be under water. R. Ganga had been taking in untreated sewage from many towns and cities for as long as it had been flowing. Downriver communities also use the river water (after suitable treatments) for domestic as well as agricultural use.

Contamination of water from green-burials (burials without coffins) is in the first link below. The discussion of the changes that happen to bodies within a coffin are in the second link below. Obviously the green burials would accelerate the decomposition of the body, and one should hope that there will be minimal effects due to the extra burden of Covid bodies in the river this year. Would Bengali's still like their river fish ?

What happens to the human body after 100 years inside a coffin.

India is a 5000-year old civilization. It may not be the same after each event but life will go on.

Cannot imagine...covid has wreaked havoc on the healthcare system, economy and life expectancy. Everyone is suffering in some way or the other due to the pandemic..
It will take a long time for India to get back to how it was pre Covid...sad but true.

This is the result of what India had become. It needs to change for better, in many ways.

Many families are not the same anymore already and forever, many kids are going to have to grow without both set of parents, for them its not the same...
However, India as a nation will recover eventually but we need to change how we look at things, scientist say that pandemics will be more common. We dont want India to repeat this heartbreak again.

None of us, people or countries, can be the same as before, whatever that before is in a timeline.
The newly evolved status would surely incorporate the lessons of the past.

In a OECD report after the last series of Pandemics a decade or so ago, there was this:
At least 2 million people die each year from vaccine preventable diseases [Covid-19 deaths are now about 3.5 millions , and 10 million if most countries had undercounted the deaths as suspected]. Generally, these deaths are not because there is a lack of vaccines and medications in the world, but because there is an inadequate vaccine distribution process. Maintaining the cold chain is an overwhelming challenge in countries where the energy infrastructure is limited. A study by Dr. Subhash C.Arya pinpointed this unanswered problem: The cold-chain maintenance is indeed a Herculean task as the transportation and storage facilities are as a rule unsatisfactory in most if not all developing countries. There are difficulties in obtaining spares and accessories and carrying out day-to-day repairs. There are insurmountable problems in satisfactory execution of the cold chain since power supplies tend to be erratic. Constant appraisal of personnel and appliances is required at the central and peripheral vaccine storage sites. <source: see p73>

Statistics relating to covid are disheartening. Nothing is going to be ever the same. We need to look at every aspect of life in a different way now. Right from healthcare to education, from finance to employment industry, from essential goods to service industry, you name it and our approach, outlook and every dimension has to change.
We will recover faster, things will improve, India will adapt. But in the process, if we develop a little more humanity, a little more empathy, then we can say corona has left us with many scars and also with some lessons worthy of life !
