I know almost nothing about men's blazers or formal clothing, not keen to do much research and need to buy one dark colored blazer online. : ) I don't want to read up articles in artofmanliness.com, thessentialman.com or apetogentleman.com : ) Or watch any style guide videos on YouTube.

It is for a tall and lanky teenager. To be worn when presenting a paper or for internship interviews kind of thing. Will most likely be "borrowed" often by friends or stuffed into backpack for wearing later, so nothing too expensive or long-lasting. My questions, and I have many:

    - If the description says "sports coat", can it still be worn indoors for an interview?
    - Does the dark color and fabric of the blazer/jacket have to match that of the dark pants exactly?
    - Can the same blazer be worn on top of a t-shirt and a collared shirt?
    - What is the "lightest" and least bulky blazer variety for men? I find so many light ones for women like this one.

I want to create a set of "formal" clothes:
    - dark colored formal pants (already have 2)
    - solid color long sleeve shirt (already have)
    - nice white t-shirts (easy to buy)
    - a blazer to go with the above (no clue)

Any suggestions appreciated. Looking only for online purchases. A mother's love can only accomplish so much. I am not going to the men's sections of brick-and-mortar stores now when all are rushing in with no masks. : )

Make it a formal coat. Sports coats are ususally for a casual but business mingling sort of evening business dinners, or a site visit. But there are good sport coat that looks like a formal wear. https://www.macys.com/shop/product/...11319&cm_lm_mo64=ZHJ2aXZla2FrQGdtYWlsLmNvbQ==
no. Navy blazer and sand/gray trousers and tie of choice are the most popular combinations I have seen.
    yes. and sweater.

    Rihanna- Both options look good!

Yes, Sports coats are fine for interviews. I recommend my students wearing a Sports jacket and khakis for semi-formal interviews and a suit for formal interviews.

A suit needs to match but the Sports coat/trouser combo doesn't need to match. It is better to have a coat/jacket and trousers in different colors. Dark jacket with lighter pants to avoid the suit look. See examples below:

No sermons. If possible, take him to Men's warehouse (They are not crowded usually) and get him a well-fitted jacket.

A single breasted corduroy beige/charcoal grey blazer will go well with tee and shirts as well. (gives a sporty yet professional look) can be worn with denim or any cotton trousers
Otherwise herringbone grey or light navy(mostly this looks like a shaded texture).

I buy all of my DH’s clothes so no talk of self sufficiency coming from me. I’ve been watching the Nordstrom associate videos to figure out the material/accessories etc. This one looks good.

Thanks Angela. I also like the sand trousers with navy blazer combo. Saw Virat Kohli wearing it in an interview. : ) Kid however won't wear any light colored pants. Only black, navy blue, dark dark green, dark grey. Sweater also no. Sigh.

I like the Macy's link one.

Thanks nuss! I was hoping you'd respond as initial use will be mostly on campus.

I am hoping to convince him to try at least a dark tan/brown khaki.

The pictures really help. As the pants color is fixed (dark), maybe I'll look for a lighter like in the second picture.

Kya bolen, nuss. What to say! Been asking better-half to do that. Nagged, begged, scolded ... nothing works. The Men's Wearhouse where we went shopping for his wedding suit is still in the same location! It took no less than 4-5 visits and an hour each visit for sahab's suit finalization. Oh my... how much they analyzed and discussed at which part of the fingertip / palm the suit should end. I finished my three saree purchases (and tailored blouses) in half the time.. : ) Back when Indian saree stores and tailors were not so many. Anyway.. coming back to the present.. long story short: after a year plus of online school, kid and I are on barely talking terms most days. He won't come shopping with me. My job is to order the coat choices, his is to try and pick one. Like the kind pediatrician told a worried me: the parent's job is to provide healthy tasty food.. toddler's job is to eat it. Not parent's job to make the child eat it. I digress...

Thx tubinbataye. I have to confess my ignorance... single-breasted blazer and herringbone grey are terms I will have to look up. Any links or pictures would be more my level.

Nice to watch a video of the product! Question - do you think that style and look are a bit for older men? Will it also look Ok on a teenager? Of course one has to see in person to know for sure. It looks good and is available for curbside pickup near me!

Get thee to a Nordstrom. The gentlemen in the men’s suits section are excellent at giving advice and will not let anyone walk out looking like a doofus. Their big sale should be coming up soon.
