Like a mom would, a dad will take a bullet or run into a burning house to save a child. What follows is about the more mundane days of parenting.

    Hypothesis:
Dads take more shortcuts in parenting than moms do.

    Limited evidence:
    1. Dad will plonk kid in front of the TV to watch his own TV. Mom will use TV only if she has must-do tasks.

    2. During a visit, the pediatrician tells the parents, "for now, let's wait and watch. nothing to worry." Dad takes it literally -- starts the waiting. : ) Mom, OTOH, starts her thinking and research even before they reach the car.

    3. School concert or graduation during office hours: dad's response is "let me check what meetings I have at that time." Mom's response: "what meeting do I need to cancel or leave early..."

    4. When parents decide that they should have a second child so the older one has a sibling: dad's approach is "great if it happens, fine if it doesn't." Mom's approach is more focused, "must have" and "success" oriented. : )

I am organizing our digital pictures and videos from the past two decades and examples that prove the hypothesis are presenting themselves in spectacular color and clarity. : )

Ouch @Rihana - why would you do this , girl :).

I am the hypothetical dad! Except for #3, my response is usually what you have listed for dad and my husband is the opposite one!

I wrote my comments here on defence. Upon re reading I found I had mistakenly read the title of the thread as
“DUDS TAKEN TO MORE SHORTCUTS IN PARENTING”! So I deleted. Shall try to revert defending DADS of the world.

Yes. Then end up being the cool parent. Me - I am stressed and stretched thin to do things beyond the measure. And the other day DD complained I didn't make her pancakes in the shape of an elephant. No winning here.

School is behind the residence. Mother insists to drop him in car. Dad hold the boy’s hand go the to the backyard and scale the compound wall reaches the school precinct. Short cut. For mom it is prestige for dad it is saving time energy and money and teaching short cut to boy. I am sure you like this in defence of dad.
