That’s exactly my point the two language choice, each state can choose a language from the official language Languages with official status in India - Wikipedia and English

when you are working in a state learn the local language or stick to English, if you don’t have that basic decency then find something else to do.

Well, it takes time to master a language and DM changes cadre quite a few times. He is certainly not a local to Tripura. IAS are seldom assigned the home cadre unless they are near retirement to prevent nepotism.

He was speaking English so what’s the problem speaking that language if he does not speak the local language?

He spoke BOTH languages. Hindi and English. His orders were in English as well. May I know what is the issue if he uttered Hindi? Is the expectation from people now that Hindi cannot be spoken in a non-Hindi state if you are serving under govt of India?

That’s the arrogance superiority, will a officer from Kerala posted in UP blabber in Malayalam to the UP People? This is pure arrogance.

Hindi versus Regional Languages comparison isn't available yet. Unmasked speakers of languages in community spreading situations could go on to generate the requisite data for analysis.

He can if he pleases. They do many times. My professor in a national university used to utter a lot of Tamil even though we all were mostly north Indians. We never complaint of that.

A professor uttering few words is not the same as the arrogant government official given the power to uphold the law.
