I watched the movie couple weeks ago. Those who doesn't speak malayalam, did anyone relate to this movie? I personally had a few instances that are very close, but overall it seemed very realistic, like story pieces stitched from lives of real people. H was very hesitant to watch this with me as he knew the story line!
I watched it,the cinematography was good. Every details in a normal indian kitchen is described eminently. Those sounds from the kitchen(tap leakage, chopping veggies, cooker whistle, tadka) were so realistic. A typical Indian set up. Ironically many women are fine with this set up,atleast for the sake of the marriage. I'm sorry I don't belong there.
Me and husband watched the movie together... The scenes when the lady was going to the kitchen, my husband would say “ Ishwara, pinneyum adukkala” ( oh God, again kitchen)... The movie is the real portrait of an average Indian woman, especially if they are living with really conservative in-laws !
There was a discussion on it earlier this year: Has Anyone Watched The Movie " The Great Indian Kitchen "
Apart from the kitchen, I like from the movie was that when the heroine who doesn't have a name (apt when considering the typical home set up) wanted to have choices, opinions and self respect.
The setup in the house itself seems to be a generation ago. The girl and her parents should have thought about it before marriage
