I don't know how this thread will go.It could get controversial and receive backlash but I felt the need to
share this.Feel free to correct or educate the right and wrong.

I love animals but never was I against eating meat coz I believe it is a personal choice.I am a vegetarian myself though I have tried chicken once or twice.

I recently was checking videos of cute animals and few videos popped up and I came through some horrific methods of slaughter of animals. One video went to another coz I want to gain insight and was totally aghast by the methods used to kill those poor animals be it cows, goats, camels ,chickens etc..

I could literally feel the pain the animals were experiencing.they were half dead and were not even able to scream in pain as their mouths were tied. The pain am sure must be excruciating. It was just terrible.I could not sleep.

Their lives are precious to them just like ours is to us..

We all do a lot of mistakes out of which some are intentional and others unintentional and this topic can digress to various levels. It is too deep I understand.

I learnt about karma and even eggs it seems is equivalent to killing an unborn baby.

I understand the "circle of life" and why and how things are etc and so I do not know if it is right or wrong.

    What are your opinions..

Very controversial thread indeed. I am a non vegetarian now. I was a complete vegetarian before, grew up in a mostly vegetarian only occasional fish cooking family. Beef was a no no. I used to eat only vegetarian + diary, not even eggs. My mom used to look down on people who ate non veg, she os a complete vegetarian. And my husband is a meat scientist. My eating meat has nothing to do with his career, but I like meat. It tastes great. there i said it. Tat being said, I eat not worrying about the animals, because most of the time, I assume they are treated in a reasonably clean and approved facility.

    It's all hypocrisy.

Take PETA for instance. They will make hue and cry on Jallikattu ( without understanding the background around it ), but will turn a blind eye on how the meat commercial industry treats animal slaughtering and eat meat 3 times a day.

nowadays..painless methods of killing has been invented but how can any form
    of killing be painless?

    Agree on the PETA thing..

I appreciate people like Angela who honestly accepts she likes the taste of meat.which is understandable.

I too like the taste of meat .
I was in some fb groups that showed the gruesome killing of animals. Had to unfollow.
India is far worse in treating animals.
Animals for human consumption can be slaughtered humanly. We need to follow that..
Temple Grandin is a designer of livestock handling facilities and has developed methods to kill the animals with less to no pain. Some countries like united States, Canada, Australia, Europe have executed her ideas.

But why kill animals for leather and other beauty/cosmetic stuff.
Elephants are tied mercilessly and treated harshly during Temple festivals.

Yes. I know. I saw a video were the animal was skinned alive. Just for leather.
I started buying faux leather after that.

Everytime I have a conversation remotely close to this it has ended up with a ' so how are you making sure you arnt hurting onion plants and ants etc because all life deserves life'... I cant answer so I just dont have these converstions which trigger egos etc.

Personally , I am brought up a vegitarian but many of my cousins have started eating meat. I dont judge at all because I dont think I should. Their life, their choice. I have remained a vegitarian not because of culture but because I just cant get myself to eat...

Those videos are very disturbing, those slaughter ones. Many of my friends say that if they had to kill a chicken themselves to eat it.. they might not be able to.
It makes it easier to them that it comes packed just like potatoes and tomatoes.

Not that I wish.. but I have a slight feeling this thread is not going to age good :argue:
I hope I am totally wrong.

I have been a vegetarian and later have seen some of my cousins turrned to non vegetarian. However i dont have anything against them.

What i dont like is when friends come and tell me to try non vegetarian once, well if i really wanted to i would have long back.
I do have lot of choices in vegetarian food, contrary to what many feel.

To be honest, there is no desire or an urge to eat non vegetarian for me.
Slaughter house videos are heart wrenching and leaves me helpless and teary eyed.

    eternal questions!!
Yes it is. I had a buddhist friend who claimed eggs are vegetarian. I consider them non vegetarian. But then there are alot of borderline veg/nonveg.
If you eat a vegetarian pizza, with mozzarella cheese, which uses rennet (enzyme) which is a buy product from killing calves for veal, how do you classify a vegetarian pizza in terms of conscience? All vegan eaters have no problem I guess.
