This morning I received information that two acquaintances have died due to COVID 19 despite HAVING TAKEN BOTH THE CORONA VACCINE SHOTS

This increased my skepticism about the vaccine. Frankly, I suspect that it is nothing more than a placebo.

A few days ago DW said all her relatives had got vaccinated and we should also do so.

"Stay put" I said"If we go to a hospital or vaccination center, the chances are very high that we will catch Ms.Corona, It is riskier to go for vaccination than to stay home in social isolation"

She agreed and all three of us have remained unvaccinated so far. enjoying our isolation from the rest of the world. I suppose we can afford the luxury since we have a house of our own where there are days when we remain in isolation from each other without coming into contact.
I suppose this is not possible for people living in apartment blocks. Studies in Mumbai have shown that the virus has spread faster in flat blocks than in individual houses. Since Mumbai is a city of flats for both rich and poor, the impact of the virus is very high.

Same is the case in Delhi,. In the apartment block where I own a flat COVIUD 19 came down like a clap of thunder. My tenants; family caught it but mercifully recovered. . Three people who were our ex-neighbors died.

As far as the history of vaccine development goes, vaccines for diseases like smallpox and polio have taken about a decade to develop, Rustling up a vaccine in six months or a year makes me skeptical. Instant noodles, instant coffee, yes? But instant vaccine?

So ladies and gentlemen. I prefer to strictly follow the protocol for the pandemic. Social isolation (I love it. No need to run into fools and suffer pointless conversation) strict hygiene. And I haven't even stepped out of my home since the onset of COVID 19, I don't have to..

For those who have to step outside to earn their daily bread, follow the protocols strictly please, and best of luck with the vaccine! But I personally feel going for the vaccine is like playing Russian roulette: the bullet might enter your head or it might not.

Total Home isolation is a myth - unless we are growing all food in our backyard- we do come regularly in contact with delivery guys , who enter hundreds of home, many of them covid positive.

About the vaccine, I would say it is a personal choice, as surely the long term effects are unknown- but the infection situation outside is too scary as well.

    Yes total home isolation
Total isolation is a myth. Not practical. I do not want also. So...why not give a try with vaccine?

Best of luck with the vaccine. Though there are reports that the Oxford vaccine marketed here as Covaccine, has killed 8 people abroad, it doesn't seem to have caused much harm here. The real danger lies in going to vaccine centres or hospitals (hotbeds of the virus) and catching it there.

Please get vaccinated when the crowd gets less in hospitals there. But don’t avoid about the reasons given online. Discuss with your doctor who will clear your doubts. This doctor has made many videos and you might watch them to get more information and get your vaccine.

While there is no evidence of the vaccine causing serious harm in iNDIA (Despite reports of death in Europe). it my not be doing much good either. With thr pandemic raging like this, it may take ages before hospitals and vaccination centres become empty.

Balajee, just a gentle correction - the Oxford vaccine is Covishield. Covaxin is the one Indian one.

As far as 8 deaths after Covishield : we do not have details of their other conditions. Even if it is due to the Covishield, let us not forget that all vaccines and medications affect a certain small section of the population - we are dealing with biological systems, not mechanical ones.

In any case from personal experience I thank God the BH had had both of his doses - the second one in the last week of Feb. He still tested positive on April 10th. He was at home the first week, but had to be admitted the second and was in for 10 days. I shudder to think of the effects if he had NOT been vaccinated. I believe the vaccine did protect him.

Anyway, I guess it is each one's individual decision whether to take the vaccine or not. I have got both mine.

As for the pandemic, it is not raging because of the vaccine, but due to the fact that many have still not been vaccinated and the innate stupidity of people - be it politicians, people who insist on attending religious gatherings or people on the street who wear their masks below their chins or not at all.

    Dear Balajee,

Even though it is socially incorrect to say it, the best immunity is derived when one gets SAR-COV2 and recovers out of it by one's own immune system fighting it. Unfortunately, it has a fatal effect on most patients who already have preexisting health conditions. Because this disease became pandemic, most governments relaxed the rule to give emergency authorization to vaccines around the world. If I understand correctly, no procedural steps in evaluating the vaccines were compromised except the sequential steps are collapsed into parallel steps. Efficacy is established before an emergency authorization is given.

I don't know about Covishield and COVAX, but all three vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna & Johnson & Johnson) in the US are administered successfully across the US and nearly a third of the total population had already taken both shots and nearly one-half of the population had received at least one shot so far. At least the federal government and state governments are not pushed to shut down completely due to effective administration of COVID vaccine across the board. mRNA vaccines such as Pfizer and Moderna are a very new technology used for vaccination and yet both the governments and people have embraced this new technology without any hesitation.

Our entire family had already taken both shots of Pfizer and we all had no reactions. I would encourage you to consult your doctor and take the best vaccine available near your residence. Social distancing, washing hands frequently, and wearing a mask are all protection against COVID but the best protection can be achieved only through vaccine or recovery after getting infected by SAR-COV2.

It is painful to hear the news from India about this new wave of COVID cases. I think it is caused by the complacency of the Government of India, the misconception that COVID19 had been successfully stopped when there was a drop in cases early this year, and the so-called independence to rely on local vaccines as opposed to jointly working with the international community and order the vaccines like all other countries for the most effective vaccines. The Indian government was focused on selling their vaccines overseas as opposed to securing vaccines for the Indians first. The Prime Minister even told the international community that they should learn how to eradicate the spread of COVID from India. I am not sure what kind of predictive analysis took place in the government to come to that conclusion. Besides, the government allowed Kumbamela to take place and allowed big gatherings in the form of campaigns for the elections.

In America our Tax Collecting agency has a table of life expectancies.... based on the year of your birth. This has to do with a tax-deferred savings scheme, and they would like to collect all the deferred taxes before you croak. I am sure there are life expectancy tables in India as well -- usually maintained by Insurance-wallahs for use in some algorithm to calculate your likelihood of dying before paying all the premiums.

This life expectancy table is quite relevant to those who have had a good innings already, all affairs, and estate planning in perfect order, all body parts working well-enough etc.. On top of all that, if someone is sitting home in a suitably detached house, getting all things delivered at some air-lock close to the compound gate, and they are given a choice between
    • some minuscule, yet finite chance, that the vaccine would cause them to die, but a significant chance that it would make a potential corona infection infinitely more survivable.... versus
    • not getting the vaccination, because they are pretty much already way over the median life expectancy, and all the extra life time is pure gravy, while cruising along to another sort of finale.
When vaccine locations in India are all in short supply, and the vaccine-eager queue is long, and socially undistanced (maldistanced?) , OP's decision to defer that for now could be the right one. When enough people have had the thing already, and the vaccine-sellers are relatively free & relaxed, they may even come to the OP's home, go through the air-lock, and do it in the garden, the no-man's land of a detached house. Alcohol wipes for everyone ! Heck one could even use champaign wipes if wealthy enough to live in detached house.

In the meantime, sit tight, and chill.

Sir, it is your personal choice to take the vaccine or to not take it.
As it’s a voluntary vaccination and not a mandatory one yet.

My family physician and the specialist whom I consult for my health issue s both told me the vaccine is safe , and I trust them.
The elders in my family have all taken both doses of Covishield and are recovering from side effects..when elders are confidently taking , I too will take when my turn comes and i get access to the vaccine..
Complete home isolation is a temporary solution, to stay safe during pandemic.. but not permanent..
There are many situations when you could come in contact with the virus or Covid positive persons even if you practice home isolation and don’t step out of the house.
What if you or family member need to step out for some emergency, like health related or essential and unavoidable work.
Visits ..unavoidable visit by family member or relative.
In case you are unable to manage without domestic help and employ a helper for house cleaning
If you make a mistake in sanitisation and cleaning of groceries and fruits and vegetables purchased from outside and home delivered.
By accidental contact with delivery agents.
In case of essential and urgent repair of home or home appliances, the service technician would enter your home..

If you’re vaccinated , the severity of disease, chance of hospitalisation and death will greatly reduce even if you contract Covid later., that’s what I believe. And why I will still tell everyone to consult their physician and take the vaccine if doc says ok.
