Dish Washer Is It Really Useful

In our kitchen sink, we have a debris catching nylon mesh bag covering the debris catcher in the sink drain. Once every two days, we toss this bag in the trash, and put on a new bag. Many people would have a metal mesh to catch the debris, and tap it into their trash bin to empty that.

We use the dish washer for cleaning the finely adhered oily layer on the dishes. Every dish we use has this layer. We RINSE ( not wash ) the gross, bigger pieces sticking to the dish in the sink, and then load that dish in the dish washer. Every family member must be trained to rinse and load. At the end of the day, the Lady of the Home can inspect the loaded dishwasher, and then decide to add the detergent, and start the washing. All the dishes in the dishwasher are already rinsed off their big debris and loaded only to clean the surfaces. That is how it works.

At the bottom drain of the dishwasher, there is a metal screen filter to catch debris that one of your household members failed to remove before loading. Once a week, you will inspect that metal screen, and clean it (use anold toothbrush with some dish washing detergent).

 

Your questions are valid and I had the same questions before I invested in a Bosch DW.
1) no need to wash before putting in DW. Even milk vessel I'm putting directly with out pre wash.. It's coming out clean. Off course people like my MIL will boil milk again and again in same vessel and make a black layer n put it in dw and say this DW is a waste doesn't clean properlyand not suitable for indian kitchen..These things are done to prove my decision to buy a DW is wrong.. No it's very much useful and saves time and energy provided you understand how to use.
2) anything in steel and glass goes into the DW along with good quality plastic. Wood, aluminium and other metals stays in sink n washed in hand.
3) it saves your time definitely. I trust my DW more than my maid because maid is capable of leaving soap stains on the vessels but DW is intelligent.. It sterilises the vessels and the finished vessels come out hot n clean
4) how all my doubts were cleared : I selected a nearest Bosch showroom and asked him if he has a demo if yes what all I can bring. He said bring any vessels. I took my aluminium cooker, my mixer jar (where I had ground urad dhal and kept it without washing )and milk vessels. None were pre washed or rinsed. My friend was also with me. We took it to the showroom , he loaded it in front of us and we went shopping . Came back to see hot clean sparkling vessels. The urad dhal mixer jar was truly an endurance test for the DW. After a satisfying experience went ahead and booked a dw. This experiment was in pre covid stage and what a blessing it was I got dw during covid and really didn't get upset with many many lockdowns n stopping of maids.
My suggestion is if u r in any major indian city call up Bosch showroom and ask them for a demo. I'm not sure in current situation what's teh scene.. See it yourself and then go ahead with the booking..

It's one of the best investment so far in the new home.

Caked in milk vessels should be soaked in the sink with soapy water, and the residue removed with a mild scrubber [Scotch-Brite Never-scratch would be good on non-stick pans, or regular Scotch-Brite can be used]. If you let the DW remove the milk solids, that will go and get stuck in the metal scrim filter at the bottom of the Dishwasher. If that screen is not cleaned periodically, there will be two issues:

• Decay of food debris, causing smell
• Growth of fungus, blocking the scrim holes.
• slow draining of water...eventually leading to that red-blinking light in panel.

This is easy to experience in hot/humid places (Florida, Hawaii)... like most of India.

A DW is an excellent thing for a household, whether or not the corona lockdown is on. It is especially good when all the adults in the house are trained to rinse (off big debris from) whatever they used, and load it in the DW. A kitchen sink free of various glasses, saucers, plates etc.. is nice. The milk/chai boiling vessel should be the only default thing in a sink, soaking in soapy water to soften the caked-in milk/chai, and getting loaded last after that is suitably big-chunk free.

 

For our Indian cooking with oil and ghee..dishes do need to be scrubbed well before loading in the dishwasher.

Sometimes I feel like it is double work but it comes out very clean and sanitary.

Bosch is amazing which is what I have.

A dishwasher is a lifesaver for me. Are brands readily available in India? I need to replace mine and I’m looking at Bosch but there’s a 6-month backlog in the US right now.
