( Kilpauk Medical College & Hospitals @chennai) .......................●□●□●□● "I just wanted to let you all know that both myself Dr Rajgopal and my wife Dr Anitha contracted COVID-19 ten days ago. We had taken both doses of the vaccine and three weeks after the second dose, we went to Vapi via, Mumbai (airport transit only) to attend a wedding reception and inauguration of a new hospital. We both had been so careful all through last year but let our guard down just this one time thinking we are safe because we have taken the vaccine. Please remember that the vaccine does not prevent us from contracting COVID-19 (we are examples), we can still get it if we are not careful. So, I request those of you who have got the vaccine, to continue to take care as before (wearing mask, social distancing etc). Don't let your guard down. Yes, the vaccine reduces the severity of COVID and that is how we have got through it successfully. Our disease was categorised as mild. Even then, it was not just a bit of a cold and sore throat... It was pneumonia, our oxygen levels came down and it affected our coagulation system. Luckily, we did not need oxygen. We have both recovered are back home now but the experience is something we could have done without. 7 days home isolation and 3 days hospitalusation at Udupi and 7 more days now home..no need to really isolate but need rest. Report That post deserves a triangle-exclamation report to Admin. The message that it would convey is that one can get covid after vaccination, and therefore, what is the point of the vaccination and suffering temporary sore arm and may be even a mild fever for a couple of days and general malaise...eh? The two idiot doctors who got covid after the vaccination should have been straight-jacketed so that they cannot post anything on the internet to discourage others from getting the vaccine. These two idiots are medical practitioners with daily exposure to the various SARS-2 variations/mutations. The doctors ought to know that Covid vaccines prevent serious sickness and hospitalizations; the exact experiences they have had. The vaccines are supposed to prevent hospitalization and death; and that is all there is to it. Such a message is too darn scary for people to digest; and therefore, everybody soft-pedals the message for the lay people who are not healthcare workers, and say that those who take the vaccine don't get sick. That Rajagopal and Anita should be flogged, and their medical licenses revoked. Lucky that they don't live in some middle eastern caliphate where they could actually get to experience that punishment.
I would not read too much between the lines in this report and take it at face value. All they wanted to convey was that , common person should guard against letting their guard down after taking the vaccine, which is quite natural for the common man/woman who does not go deep into all the health reports/updates on the carona virus. However being doctors themselves it is surprising that they acted the way they did! The gist of it is that vaccines would at least prevent very serious illness and death due to the immunity expected at various percentages, depending on the vaccine.
The doctors message is clear and kind of caution and not at all discouraging vaccination. I do not find anything more or less to it.
