My sister sometimes buys fabric to herself and my niece and gives to stitching here itself. Even once I bought material for salwar kameez. Hobby Lobby and Joann have great fabric collection.

You give them measurements and they alter or stitch it and send it to you. I had a good experience with them.

 

The tailor was my neighbor 5 years ago who used to tailoring after her regular work. After that she moved I moved. She used to stitch saree blouse, salwar, lehengas. Not totally perfect but I was happy with her work. My sister lives in west cost ,she had finds through Sulekha or Yelp. Once she got it stitched with an apparel design student who posted ad on Craigslist. There are Indian tailors in every city. Check your city’s local ad magazine, Sulekha, Indian WhatsApp/Facebook groups, Indian temple, Indian grocery store ad bulletin boards, check with your local friends for reference. May be at first just give one dress which is not expensive for trials and see how the finished output comes and then decide .

 

I usually buy from online boutiques (FB/Instagram) or websites like limeroad/myntra/g3fashions and such. I usually ship them to my parents place and make them send me courier along with different other things like pickles, indian snacks and all. I plan for yearly events (birthdays/anniversaries/festivals) and get them at once. If I dont have time to search through, I buy from Indian boutiques here in USA there are tons of people selling customized dresses/jewelry these days, my community itself has 4 boutiques who are selling sarees/dresses/kurthis/lehangas/frocks/artificial jewelry (we are densely populated with desis). Either way never had issues with my purchases so far.
