    Latest update from Florida

Because of a substantial increase in Moderna Vaccine supply to all the states, Florida Governor had a call with all registered seniors in Florida to inform them that he is introducing giving vaccines in Publix pharmacy starting Thursday, February 4, 2021. Publix pharmacy was used as a trial in South Florida and now the program expanded to almost all counties in Florida. Wednesday, February 3, 2021, the Publix website will take appointments from 6 a.m. onwards. This will continue every week even if everyone couldn't get the appointments this week until all seniors are vaccinated in Florida.

My husband and I have received both doses of the Pfizer vaccine. My husband had a slight fever for one day but I was lucky to just have a sore arm for a day or two.

Ours does too. Our county has an app to get notifications.

I went in today and got my first dose. What I didn’t realize was that they were giving out their left over stockpile and it was first come first serve for all patients since all 1b patients were done. Apparently those who logged in and got the appointment got it and the rest of the people have to wait for their own county’s vaccinations. Our county hasn’t yet started registering us so no idea when the rest of the family with get it.

That’s pretty much what they did at my workplace too. After all the frontline workers were offered the vaccine they started giving the leftovers to the rest of the staff. I jumped on it literally the second I saw the announcement. Anyone who missed this round will have to wait for their turn in the county vaccination queue. That process is a complete horror show.

I heard a lot of the staff and 1a/1b patients didn’t opt for the vaccine. Which is why they opened it out to all patients.
Wonder why the wait until April policy? I anyway didn’t second guess my decision. Hopefully it will do no harm even if the coverage isn’t 90%

This is happening everywhere. A lot of people are reluctant to take the vaccine due to misinformation, propaganda and just general paranoia. Even the nurse administering my vaccine said she was not going to take it!

I thought about not getting it until April when everyone else has tried and tested it out. Your post about getting it when available, coupled with the supply issues made me think it’s better now. If this continues I’m not sure it will be available easily in the two months that everyone is waiting and watching.

Today’s NPR piece about herd immunity had me worried. It seems like such an impossible task! Then they have this article about India and there seems to be an end in sight. If it plummets in India, it can worldwide, hopefully.

Wonder what drove it down in India?

The whole vaccine rollout thing has been such a shame for a developed country. It is not like they didn't have time to prepare. They had months to get the logistics at least somewhat figured out. Very disturbing to see how the very old are struggling to get appointments, the long online wait, webpages hanging, the confusion on where to register. Each county doing things its own way -- decided by some bureaucratic "babu" people.

The vaccine venue arrangements are another story. Long lines. Old and frail people having to walk 1/2 a mile and stand 3 hours even if they arrive 30 mins before their "appointment."

It is so silly to read news about the "positive experience" getting the vaccine. At least in the U.S., shouldn't such an experience be the norm and not news? Is it so difficult to come up with a smoother uniform way to check when it is one's turn to get the vaccine and how to register?

I can understand that some vaccines will go waste, there will be some line jumping, to small extents. But, senior citizens having to struggle like this is too much.
