I am living in India..I wanted an input as to how many of you living in India are keeping maids, cooks, babysitters, nannies etc..domestic helps inside the home...
Last year for many months apartment complexes didn’t allow domestic helpers inside...and due to peak in Covid cases many people didn’t opt..but with everything unlocked and schools, offices, etc opening up now many people have resumed maids...
    1. How safe is it to resume maids and cooks?
    2. How many of you have called them back?
    3. What safety measures are taken by the helpers while working in your home?
    4. Are they willingly taking safety measures or unwillingly doing like only if you insist..or are their refusing to do hand wash, mask usage etc?is their awareness level good..
    5. What safety measure are you and family members taking when maid or other help is inside the home?
    6. Should we wait till vaccinations happen or is it ok to employ domestic helps now?
    7. How do people decide if they have senior citizens and/or babies should at home ( my friend has a new baby and in laws and she is coming back after delivery and needs help.)
    8. I’ve heard of cases where people get Covid from domestic help and it scares me...is it due to improper mask usage..or is it because mask isn’t hundred percent effective...
I’m living in India..it’s not a survey but only need suggestions , would be useful for those of us looking for domestic helps..a friend of mine is looking for a baby sitter as she has got a work from home job offer, she has a six month baby and needs a nanny, cook and maid...
I too was under confusion as my previous maid is calling me many times and asking if she can join or not..

My parents have maid and cook coming every day. They wear masks while they are working inside the house. Maid lives nearby and walks to my parents house. They are paying for the cook to take auto rickshaw to and from work so she doesn’t have to go by public transport.
They had stopped both ladies during the early days of the pandemic though giving them full pay but now my mom finds it difficult to manage so they have been back for the last 6 months.
My brother lives in a different city and they have maid and nanny coming every day.

My parents have their maid and cook coming every day since last July. They stopped from March-June (paid full salary) but it was hard to manage without them. Both live close by and either ride bicycles or walk to my parents' house. Their cook works in two houses and another family is like my parents- only an old couple and not mingling with others. Their maid works in 3 houses- all our family (my parents and two sisters).

We live in the USA and we never stopped our cleaning lady. We leave the house when she is working and everyone wears a mask when around.

First trimester of pregnancy : Covid started. Maid was stopped.. To have normal deliver I did all the chores myself .
Second trimester : govt relaxed the rules. So was I enjoying the golden period of my pregnancy. Maid was coming.
Third trimester : the cases increased so we had to stop the maid. By then the electronic equipments which I had ordered (dishwasher, dryer and vacuum cleaner) had arrived. We thought it's better to invest in these than depend on humans for our work.
Towards the last leg of pregnancy we started maid . Unfortunately the other house where she worked were covid positive. So again we stopped her and she started again after a month.
Fourth trimester : Baby 1st, 2nd and 3rd month. I got covid not through maid but other trusted sources.

So whether to keep a maid is your call. I have always kept. They alone aren't the carriers. As long as precautions are taken you can be safe.
Covid can come through anyone : with u visiting the nearest Shopping Centre, grocery store or your in laws visiting the relatives etc

Edited to add : my old maid used walk n come for work. But then I noticed that she started visiting her children in other place and was taking the public transport. So I changed to someone who is close-by, stays with her family here and doesn't have to travel in public transport .

Maid working since last june after govt n my apartment started allowing maids to work.
No issues so far as long as they wear masks and wash hands.
If not well, give paid leaves and ask to return after they feel better.

Maids work for us just as we work outside to earn money. Why to single them out for covid fear?

I educated my maid a lot last year and even she is very cautious and careful.

We stopped the maid for many months since march..but now I'm facing health issues...we dont have the necessary setup at home required for dishwasher and cant afford an automated robotic vaccum cleaner as of now...
I'm feeling overworked and exhausted...but have elders and kids at home I'm confused what to do..as I'm not working i will take rest in afternoon still feeling weak and tired...
So a little help will be welcome.
My previous maid has called me and she is working in my neighbourhood..I'm having confusion what to do..
Request all of you ladies to please reply so I can decide within next month as to what can be done...

Although we were paying their salaries for a few months, my helper did not like getting salary without working. She called non-stop to come back and work by August. :flushed:

She lives alone, walks to my place and works only in a couple of other places.
One month, she didnt have enough money and was working in a vegetable shop - So I educated her about the risk she is exposed to and also helped her manage her payments. So she left the job.

When she goes to meet her family in her village, I ask her to not come for 4-5 days after her return.

She comes home with a mask, washes hands and feet with soap. Wears the mask that I have provided her. And then does all the work.
Some other week, there was some house near hers that had covid, she took alternate path to come home - BBMP closed access, so there was no choice anyway.

Now, there are no cases in my area. She comes regularly. Even if she goes to her village, she hires a known person's car (doesnt take train) and they do carpooling.
