A while back I accidently bought a saree that is see-through. Since I am unable to return, I wanted to make use by wearing a solid dupatta on it.

I purchased a shawl that is only 66". It is too short (I am 5'4") and I am disappointed.

Please tell me how long the dupatta should be in order to pull off this look. See Dolly Jain's demonstration below.

    SuiDhaaga,

First off - I don't know the exact answer to your question. My very uneducated guess is the dupatta/shawl has to be at least 1/3 the length of a saree, so about 72-76 inches.

    1. I actually thought you were asking how long the pallu should be draped. And that dupatta was a typo. : ) After watching the video, I got your question.

    2. Next, when I first saw the picture included below, I thought the plain red is the shawl, and the black embroidered fabric is the saree.

    3. I really liked the video. She is so comfortable in front of the camera. Then, I went to her website and looks like she is a celebrity saree draper. Ideas and how-to's in her website are cool. Saree pegs!!

    4. Was nice to view the website. Cool how the logo forms and appears the first time the website is viewed.

Question for you: Do you happen to know of more such "how to" videos for saree draping ideas but that are fully in English by Dolly or others? She uses Hindi quite a bit and it shouldn't matter much as we can watch the video, but some tips she describes in Hindi are important, such as how to smoothen the pleats around the tummy front, and the specialty of her skirts, how to measure and order them. These details are lost if viewer does not understand much Hindi. TIA for any suggestions.

    This reply is very helpful.

Dolly Jain is gifted with unique talents. I do love her intro website that shows the logo and draping.

I am not fluent in Hindi, so I can only pick up on her Actions and few English words.

There are few how-to videos and websites for saree Draping in English.
