    Hi Anika !
It has been 20 years since my trip ... And it stays in your soul... You can never forget it!

Imagine flowers bursting with all kinds of colours everywhere, no buildings, no people - just you and your co-travellers!

Do try and go back when you can... I heard you need to get some physical tests before the trek so dont leave it for too late.

In those parts of the Himalaya, Ma Ganga is just born nearby at Gangotri, so she is young, like a 16 year old - very fresh and very chanchal restless with gurgling noises and tastes sweet and pure.

Several places around London is worth seeing...
Very early in my career I got a chance to work on a 1 year Project in London...

Being only 21, I used to look like a student and the ticket counter ladies would Press me to buy the student ticket (usually priced 30% of the normal price)
I would be shy and say it was not true, I was earning - but they would insist !
There was an under-25 pass in all the travel cards - so all my travel in UK and Europe used to cost 50%

Being a bookworm, I wanted to visit the birthplaces of Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Byron, I wanted to see castles and museums and palaces and Parks

Those days, my colleagues used to call me the backpacker - I would book tickets on wednesday, come to office with a backpack on friday and return directly to office with the backpack on monday - rinse and repeat for the whole year I spent there!

When they sent me on a mandatory 10 day leave, I took a coach trip to Europe - All the passengers took me under their wing and looked after me ! I have some good memories

When I returned to India, I had a 6 month break before starting a new project - so I travelled all over India - Himalayas to Kanyakumari - alone or with different groups - am talking about 2000 - so now with all the safety apps and online bookings, cabs availability, conveniences and comforts are really available if someone wants to travel in India!

People have to go there, wherever, and rate it. Just like camping, or going places where access to clean loo is tough, there is a context, and a time of life for it. I will revisit many of the places I had visited and liked.

Taiwan is a favorite place for me. I had travelled in their bullet train (Taipei to Kaohshiung), stopped in a lot of towns in between, ate in many posh restaurants, stayed in nice hotels. Taiwan has big cities, shopping, excellent cuisine, nice fruits, mountain hikes, and good customer service in all places. No need to speak chinese. So many have sent their children abroad to study, and pretty much everyone in the white-collar class can speak a little.

Republic of China (aka Taiwan) happened when the elite escaped with their treasures, cuisine and habits when Mao's army of northern roughs were taking over the country. After the country was taken over, all elite-seeming things are broken, or burnt for decades. And now, to experience the Chinese Culture (food, museums, old calligraphy) the mainland wealthy have to travel to Taiwan. The locals know them by sight, as well as body language.

From US west coast, it is possible to travel to India with a stop-over holiday break in Taipei. China Airlines may have a program on that, just like Singapore air has one for their place. My wish is to go to Taiwan for a month, and stay in many towns. Tai chi (slow moving balancing exercise) in the morning with the local seniors, and drink hot tea. I also like their foot massages, and callus-scraping of feet.

Vegetarians would have a tough time to enjoy many types of cuisines in the world. And Taiwan would be extra difficult on vegetarians.

I get the feeling this thread is turning into a destination thread. Now I want to go to Jamaica and see what’s better than Punta Cana although all of my friends who’ve been have told me Aruba is better :)

In US State of Florida. If you like sun, beaches its a great place. But however I feel the state is fairly flat, not scenic unlike other states when you get away from beaches.
