I agree. How hard is it going to be to arrest those who already have been on the capitol grounds illegally? They simply didn’t do it and I agree with white privilege here. Just a media trip can tell few of those who were on these photos and they aren’t still been arrested.
They did not hide their faces or identities and posted as a pride moment. All of them should be brought to justice. If it had been BLM, Trump would have shouted ‘Law and Order’ and would have made politics out of it. I don’t want anyone to go for violence but one cannot talk without comparison especially when these two incidents had happened few months apart and been treated so differently in both instances.

I am waiting to see how many of these guys are arrested and prosecuted.

US Capitol: Q-Anon, Confederate flag man, and Baked Alaska - here are the people who stormed the building

White supremacists among those who stormed the U.S. Capitol, live streamed from inside

And this guy who stole the podium had put it on sale on eBay.

The guy waving the Indian flag at the riot has something else going for him. The Kerala police isn’t known for handling people like the Capitol police did. Wait till he lands in Kerala.

    Anyone for silver linings ?

Banana-Republic-like events on the Capitol could make all of us realize that there is nothing exceptional about this population or their organized government at all.

A few decades ago we had lots of Nations cowering in the shadows of the two super powers with hydrogen bombs they can deliver from space. One is already a petro-state with a national budget that depends on the price of crude oil (controlled/manipulated by the group of Arabs) whereas the other one is disoriented by the designs of a despot.

Beijing and Brussels can now compete to see whose currency becomes the "reserve currency" of international trade. Beijing can hold up the obvious advantage of not having a democratic mess to spoil progress or peace. Brussels can surely point to the ongoing pandemic and promise redoubled strength for the future, because, as it is often said:

Brad Raffensperger reminds me of the Dhobi ka kutta saying. Neither here nor there. Both parties hate him. Dems for voter purging and republicans for doing his job.

Unfortunately a Capitol police officer has passed away after battling these hooligans.

There are times a president (-elect) should avoid stating the obvious if the obvious doesn't help with calming a nation after an unprecedented event. He needs to be presidential. BLM and other divisive topics do not belong in that speech. Don't assume that all who are shocked at the attack on the Capitol are supporters of the BLM movement. The words have to be measured and each one aimed at reassuring the nation already reeling under a pandemic. He is the president-elect, not a co-worker talking at the water-cooler or as a Zoom call is ending.

I guess I am comparing him with Obama. I will never forget the way Obama spoke and the words he used. Biden is fine, but I so wish Obama was president. I read this somewhere about Obama's way of speaking:

American president Barack Obama had an incredible speaking voice. It was this nice, smooth, resonant baritone and he often spoke very slowly but very clearly, pausing to emphasize certain points. ... The presidential voice is slow, soft, calm. You speak in a lower register, inflect downward, and you enunciate very, very clearly. When we talk like this, it just brings the emotional energy in the room right down. ... Take a deep breath, and speak a little slower, a little softer, and in a lower register, clearly enunciate every word. Using this tone of voice can instantly bring a feeling of calm and safety to the room. You're essentially communicating through your tone. "Relax. We're okay. I've got this under control."
    I digress.

Biden is good. Should not forget that he did what he needed to do - win the election!

It’s not just BLM supporters. Even many diehard Republicans who have generations of conservative voting behind them are aghast at this desecration. Only the cult members are still swigging the Kool Aid.

    ^^^ you live and learn.
In a country where elected politicians proudly proclaim the citizens' right to own and bear arms, they themselves need better protection. They had not realized that and came pretty close to deep peril. And now, they too will install the kind of protections that are given to the other co-EQUAL branch of the government, the POTUS.

The president is protected against overflights of aircrafts or drones. They also have sharp shooters sitting on the roof (no matter what the weather, IR-enabled firearms at night and so on) watching everyone around that house.

When the US Congress convenes again, they are going to allocate money to have people on the dome of the Capitol building, at all times. FBI has a lot of evidence for the infiltration of the police departments in the Nation with white supremacist groups and sympathizers; one would hope that this new Capitol Defense Force will not have the same problem. The problem of the members of the law enforcement force wanting selfie photos with the people of their karass* who are actually trying to attack whatever the law-enforcement force is trying to defend.
    *karass (plural karasses)
A network or group of people who are somehow affiliated or linked spiritually.

I am beginning to sound like a stuck record. : )

BLM topic does not belong in the calming speech given after such an event. For me, the attack on the Capitol was a darker day than the day Trump won in 2016. It was a day of examining what all this country means to me. How ephemeral all that can be! Our family visit to the Capitol a few years ago was one of the most solemn ones. The whole atmosphere and the historic exhibits simply so dignified. I wish Biden had not brought up BLM. For me, the disruption due to the BLM protests hit very close to home. My daughter was out around 7:30 pm and somehow we had missed taking the 8 pm curfew timings seriously. She was driving a different car and her phone was not connected to the Bluetooth. My desi friend's new car was vandalized as she lives in a very white neighborhood. Many small businesses already suffering under Covid were attacked along with bigger ones like Target and Best Buy.

    I digress even more. : )
