This happened to me once. We have to lock it tightly and make sure there is no rice between either at the base or the locking place on top. If it happens, the locking is not done and will unlock as it starts grinding. Just do a check by lifting the top bar after locking and see it is firm. If it is lose it will slightly lift.

Thank you! The timer seems like a good feature.

Thanks for that tip. I'm known to buy whatever shows up on amazon as an add on item :)

The same seller is on amazon too with this Elgi Utra grinder. I'll try to contact them. Thanks for the tip!

The one I currently own is my third ultra grinder. The first time around, I had trouble with the top bar. Unless I arranged the grinding stone just as in the picture on the bar, the latch wouldn't lock. Now that I've used it for a few years, it doesn't happen to me much.

I hear ya! I'm really tempted to try the tilting one just for this ease of pouring.

How many cups of rice can you grind at one time in this 1.5 ltr one? I need something that grinds 5/6 cups of idli rice at one go. Isn't 1.5 ltr very small? It looks really cute and convenient.

If money is not a concern, I would say get both. I ended up with two 'cos I got the 1.5 litre and it was inadequate. Got a 2 litre one later. Now the rice grinds in the 2 litre and ural dal goes into the 1.5 litre simultaneously.

Everything is done in 35 minutes. I think I would grind less if I had to do 35 minutes of rice followed by cleaning and another 30 minutes of ural daal.

You have a point on the 5 to 6 cups in 1.5 litre. I think its doubtful. The 2 litre can do up to 7 cups rice.

Really tempted but I have a serious space constraint.

Yeah, I think I need the 2 litre for my needs.

So much of back and forth!
I did by the Ultra grinder with the timer. Love it! Never used the atta kneader because I knead atta in the kitchen aid stand mixer but this grinder is good. Love the timer.

It beeps two minutes before the finish as a reminder and then multiple times when the timer ends. It also stops when the timer ends. Helpful for me because I used to forget to keep time and had to keep watching if it is ground properly before switching off.
