LOL. But true.. not many vacation pictures on FB and when they do post, we first think 'gosh why would anyone travel so far in such times..' My east coast friend is touring the Utah "Mighty 5" National Parks. I gather it's not in an RV. My travel list is quite specific. I should just share here a folder called Jules Verne (around the world in 80 days author) from my Google drive. : ) 1. Aspen Park, Colorado: to watch them ski and some long walks with an old friend. Haven't been to the snow in almost 7-8 years. 2. Denali natl park Alaska in late summer to do the Savage River Loop Trail again. 3. To see the Northern Lights: It's my friend's dear wish to go see them. She will chose the country, itinerary, air tickets, gear everything. I only have to know my jacket etc size and of course pay my share.. : ) I am running out of excuses and we will go as soon as we can.. unless travel sees huge numbers due to people not having travelled during Covid! 4. The Appalachian Trail: Yet to research this properly. But, keeping it easy. Access it from 6-8 entry points and hike about 8-10 miles round trip back to the entry point. It passes through 14 states from Georgia to Maine. After reading Bill Bryson's book last year, I want to be one of the 2-4 million who hike on it each year. : ) Dream is to do at least 50 miles overall within 2-3 years. : ) 5. London - to visit everything to do with Anne Boleyn and Henry the VIII. For a milestone birthday of a Tudor history aficionado. Then, there are some trips that will be just me. Found some women friendly tour organizers that offer itineraries with a good mix of they take care of the nitty gritty and travel from point to point but and you still get entire days to spend how you want. The catch is just that the cost difference between traveling alone and with another person is nominal as the rooms are double occupancy, so one tends to wonder too much .. is this a waste... : ( should banish such thoughts. And, one thing I am half crazily half bemusedly looking forward to is a one year "work and live here" opportunity abroad. Here too running out of excuses. Hopefully by late 2022 or early 2023. Good Lord.. those dates seem like from a science fiction movie!
Go to Reykjavik. I insist. The best place to see the Aurora Borealis. Iceland is a beautiful country. Must visit. And nothing better than with a friend.
There are so many places I was watching this show called “Midsomer murders” on Netflix last year. The show is a detective drama set in modern day England. I loved all the picturesque towns and villages in the series. English countryside is really beautiful!! So yes, Buckinghamshire and The Chilterns are in the list. Next is Sittong, an Orange Village in Darjeeling in the Himalayan foothills!
That is wonderful suggestion. In order to see the Northern Lights, you need a dark, clear night. They are visible from late August to early April anytime during dark hours, which in places like Abisko or Tromsø can be nearly 24 hours a day in winter. A passage from story unpublished yet : When we opened our eyes, we were terribly lucky. The vast expanse of sky was illuminated with glow, intermittently colorful and no trace of clouds. We witnessed through the glass window on the northern side of the room the picturesque northern lights known as Aurora Borealis which occurred often in Northern Finland and when winter is sufficiently cold it does appear in Helsinki. I first saw Aurora Borealis while visiting a small town near Aberdeen, Scotland in early 2000s. Such an amazing site! I was told that it was rare to see northern lights there. Next was in Tromso a few years ago. I loved Norway in general but it was super expensive, at least felt expensive to not so well off postdocs. We fell in love with Reykjavik during our 2 day stopover a few years ago. I would love to go back. It was during summer so we didn’t get to see Aurora Borealis, something I would love my kids to experience.
I would travel and visit my parents and close relatives...unable to do so since Covid. More than me travelling, I wish my In laws would travel to their native place and stay there, so my workload reduces and I can enjoy some peace and rest and freedom!
I can totally understand your need for freedom.Hang in there dear...vaccination is on the way! The dawn is nearing I wish you get some time for yourself and you should also take a small trip with your hubby and kids.You totally deserve it.
Barcelona!! Had to cancel the trip due to Covid. Prepared so much mentally & physically for the trip. Waiting to plan again. I seriously want to get to the beaches without having to bother about distancing or think who’s having running nose or cough ...
