I was surprised when one friend said she would not take it. Another said she would wait and decide and not take just because it is available to her. Most though seem to be in favor of taking it.

For me and family, the decision is a no-brainer -- take it as soon as each can.

I was looking up whether we will have a choice on which vaccine to take. So far looks like there might be less opportunity to choose, especially in the early months. https://www.miamiherald.com/news/coronavirus/article247611345.html

There are people who are Anti-vaccine (anti-vaccers ?) because of cultural or political reasons. However, there are people who are allergic to the various stuff that is used to make any vaccine "more stable". These things are called excipients. Some people are allergic to such things. They always get welts, skin-irritations, pains lasting a day or more and sore muscles. For almost all vaccines. You can see a list of excipients at CDC website. https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbook/downloads/appendices/b/excipient-table-2.pdf

The -70 C transport/storage vaccine from Pfizer, that is coming around early with an approval of 17-4 votes in the FDA council, is a more technical vaccine that can only be administered by hospitals and clinics. This is "new" technology RNA vaccine.

The latter-day vaccines [the older technology based, Astra-zeneca or J&J] will transport/store in regular fridge temperatures, and just like the garden variety influenza vaccines, we can get a shot at the local Walgreen or CDC pharmacy. May be these vaccines will also be one-shot-and-done instead of two shots with a gap of two weeks for the Pfizer thing. The Serum Institute of Pune, India is also making the older tech vaccine, that is cheaper and easy to transport and use.

Not everyone can be an early adopter of new tech. Some are naturally the wait-and-see folks, no matter what the deal is. Well-informed people who wait to take it later may be doing themselves and others a favor by not overcrowding the queue's. I don't like/approve vaccine objections for really weird reasons: Some are objecting to the new CDC-vaccine card issue, fearing that people have to carry that card for admittance into public venues and such, like "Papers please" demand of totalitarian countries in the world to restrict the movement of people within their own countries. For multi-national travellers like the desi crowd in America, the old "Carte Jaune" -- the inoculations card for international travel would be so familiar. We used to carry this with vaccinations for yellow fever, cholera, and various other things. The new Covid-19 card is white, and wallet sized.

When you get the shot, ask for the card filled out and stamped at the venue. It may be more useful than you'd imagine.

We will be take it the minute it’s available to us. However it may take months for the vaccine to reach the general public. The priority is for older people and frontline workers.
The anti-vaxxers as usual will piggy-back off of other people’s efforts.
Since these vaccines have only received emergency authorization and have not gone through the regular FDA approval process they cannot be mandated for anyone in the US. It is strictly voluntary. Your employer cannot require you to get it as a condition of employment, for instance.
Once I get mine I frankly don’t care what others do. We’ll all still have to wear masks and practice social distancing for a long time. For one, it will take a while to build up herd immunity. And the long term efficiency of the vaccine is not known.

Lots of information well summarized there, Hopi. Thank you.
Other than a reminder to take the second shot and later as a record of having taken the vaccine, what would be the "more useful than you'd imagine"?

Is it something like if any problems are discovered in the future, it will be good to know which batch/lot one's vaccine came from? The storage and transfer process was followed or not kind of check?

:pensive: Makes me so mad to think of this. At least in pandemic times, they should think beyond themselves.
Didn't know about the vaccine cannot be mandated. I thought educational institutions could require students to get the vaccine to be allowed to attend classes and maybe even offer on campus versions that have easier storage needs. But, it does make sense that a vaccine that has got an emergency approval cannot be mandated.

I was also surprised to see this. My employer requires annual flu vaccination or termination except in case of valid religious or medical exemption. I thought Covid vaccine would also be compulsory but it’s not. I think since it’s a new vaccine they also don’t want to expose themselves to legal actions if adverse events occur.

All that. And already TSA type agencies, and some airlines of many countries wont allow boarding planes without a mask. It wont be too long before a Vaccination Cert would be a mandate for airtravel. Just like old times.
