You may have seen my previous post where I purchased a black kurti and a light grey maxi skirt (pictures below) I ended up cutting the lowest tier of the maxi skirt because it was too long. If I can use that extra scrap to make a border of a dupatta, it would complete the outfit. Question is, what material do I get to make a dupatta. I wish for it to be 6 feet by three feet. I am thinking color should be firozi, i.e. greenish-blue. It should contrast well with the light grey scrap. Please give advice on fabric and color. The kurti is crepe and the skirt is cotton-ish.
I would use the fabric to make a nice, chunky, fabric, layered, rose and pin in on to the side of the knot you said would like to keep. A big brooch is what I am imagining. Maybe three roses together would look great also. I love how you've chosen grey to match the black. And you chose a skirt! Gives the outfit a modern look. (I would have gone for leggings - but that's what reveals my 90s styling! Now that you show the pairing - this looks much better with a skirt). But you are right, the outfit does need some grey on the top - to make it look balanced.
Yu have mixed fabrics in your set. Does the black top have gold in it? Do you want to reuse the pieces independently. Technically, I think the outfit will look chic even without a dupatta. If yu do really want one, you could go with crinkled cotton - to match the gold threads on the top. You can just skim the edges of the dupatta ( the shorter side) with a small flutter made of the skirt fabric. But you may have to add an edging to the skirt - a black or gold piping at the bottom. A thin piping with cording. dual color.
With a grey border a bright color dupatta might do justice . I am still unsure how would it come out though but do share what you eventually chose
Yes, the black top has gold in it. I'm starting to think the outfit would look chic even without a dupatta. So many options!!!! That's what they call it, piping! I actually got black, but it's more lace-like That is interesting. When I trimmed the skirt, I found it a tad too short. So I purchased 3" black lace trim. Once I clean up the cut edges of the skirt (am sewing by hand rather than machine), I will attach the black lace trim. Hopefully I can take and post photos!
