Interpersonal relationship always tends to take an ugly shape. It is invariably MIL-DIL affair and not MIL-SIL. I never understand what makes the latter click while the former can reach devastating levels. Lack of tolerance on both sides can be a reason. My mother and MIL lived up to their 90s and both lived with me in total amity. I do not want to be judgmental about such issues without knowing the complete facts. I can only say that building up relationship is not a very difficult thing. In this case, life has been unkind to the old lady and that is possibly causing her to be petulant about everything. We must look at her helplessness with compassion.
I hope amity will prevail in that family.

Thank you for your selection of Upanishad Stories by @kaluputti as your next nomination. Who am I to comment on these stories by her? Rajaji once said that parents must find some time to narrate puranic stories to their children from a very young age for them to learn about our rich past of virtue. It is a pity that he was ridiculed for this great suggestion. Decades after he made this suggestion, the cultural values have taken a nose dive. I don't have to say anything about the situation today. Let us look at the values that we are imparting our children and think hard about it.

In Tamil there is a saying எல்லோரும் நல்லவரே (All are good) and I firmly believe in it. Angela's problem does not appear insurmountable as her husband appears to be good and affectionate. I had observed similar problems that my daughters faced when they had children. The husbands dote on their wives but are a bit lazy to attend to children. Now those children have grown up and are getting ready for marriage in a couple of years, my daughters are proud. The old problems have not even left any scar in them!

Her drawing a reference to Michael Obama in this context is amazing recall and as she says 'She shared her experiences post delivery. It's quite similar to you or me. Even president Obama was not different'
That should be reassuring to all the young mothers.

When I started this post of Hariji I was floored because this has been my take on the half full, half empty saying.

When I read this, I remembered the exploits of King Ghazni Mahmud. In 998 AD, the Turkish conqueror, Mahmud of Ghazni, succeeded his father, and established a huge empire in Central Asia, with capital at Ghazni, the present-day South Kabul. He was 27 years old then and the first ruler to get the title as "Sultan", which means authority, thereby implying his power and strength. For 17 times, he attacked India during the period between 1000 and 1027 AD, a significant event in the history of India.

This is a delightful read. We can easily relate to Balajee's Diwali nuggets! Indian Postmen are a vanishing tribe. The new breed of Amazon guys have taken over. But the annual Diwali hunting of the postal staff has not stopped. My postman told me that I should increase the dole since we are not spending money on crackers! He went on to say that we were not spending any money on books either as we got all we wanted from the internet! 'You can give me what you used to spend on a ten thousand walla cracker' was his submission.

Tat was a riot! By the way, what is 'umami'?
