That’s right. That’s exactly the reason why they took those languages as second language, not out of desire to study them but due to the lesser stress with ability to focus on the other important subjects.

Regarding NEP - unless someone voices their concerns vehemently there is always a possibility that it gets enforced later on. I am not sure about the details of the NEP but read the news before.

 

Yes, voicing concerns vehemently is important. The NEP2020 eliminates language acquisition when the children would be most eager for it. The 3 to 8 age is the time the NEP2020 recommends activity based learning and not languages. A foundation to create an underclass from the poor of the nation. I am just curious..how many South Indians here in IL speak Hindi?

I for one..do not but I understand mostly thanks to Hindi movies and North Indian friends.

However..I cannot speak and afraid to try coz everytime I do..someone bursts out laughing

I do not mind learning Hindi but making it seem like not knowing the language is a bad thing is not correct.

I had an uncle who gave me his gyaan( Hindi word hee hee)..he told me” You are Indian and Hindi is our national language.You should feel proud to learn and know it.I am surprised you do not speak Hindi...

The above is the problem.

Then let us make a English our national language! Coz universally everyone speaks that language but then that will bring another set of problems.

 

When NEP2020 is poised to allow all the foreign universities (100 of the world's best, according to GoI) come and setup shop in India, English would continue to remain the language of Higher Ed. in India.

The NEP2020 proposes to DOUBLE the capacity for post secondary (university) education. Colleges and Universities of high calibre. PM-Modi gave a talk in Bangalore (in Hindi with some Kannada blended in for applause) talking about India becoming a global hub for higher education, and a big service industry located in India absorbing the graduates of all that global hubbing.

English education in India will stay, albeit Hindi names on road/station/rockets and so on.

The efforts, and money invested in Hindi Prachar Sabha by the central government in the nonHindi areas of the country may even be a long term plan to effect/facilitate a migration of labour from the poor Hindi states to the wealthy non-Hindi places where there is an unskilled labour shortage.... like TN, Karnataka and Kerala.

Eventually getting the mosaic, into a masala, and then into a melting pot. Everyone (according to some AIADMK leaders in TN) eventually speaking very polite Sanskrit with one another ... Ram Rajya !!

 

This is a bigger problem than it appears to be.

If you want to destroy a set of people destroy their mother tongue rest will fall in its place. (ஒரு இனத்தை அழிக்க வேண்டும் எனில் அவர்கள் மொழியை அழித்தால் போதும் !)

It is a pathetic State (pun intended) where one needs to order their own South Indian food in Hindi in their own state. You stay in a service apt, you should know to speak in Hindi to service people. At toll gate you should know to ask for the change in Hindi. One need to listen to the tourist guide in Hindi in their own state. In any other state you can land on govt job only if you know the local language. And our govt being the central’s puppet has an addendum where you can join the job without the knowledge of local language and learn the local language in 2 years.

If I visit North India I can’t speak in my native language and survive but if anyone visits south India the locals will go to any extent in trying to speak their language and make them feel at home. (வந்தாரை வரவேற்று வாழவைக்கும் தமிழகம்). In rural parts where people speak only the local language have to discuss their health issues to a Hindi doctor … Why like land encroachment this language thrust should happen? They have already penetrated TN like anything and now unless a major reform or movement happens this situation is going to get worse. I am a multi-lingual with exposure to 5 languages know to speak / read / write in Hindi, I enjoy Hindi music, shaayari’s too. With opportunity to learn multiple languages I do not thrust my language preference on anyone else, With Hindi being just 200 years old politics is trying to destroy a language that is 5000 years or more older …

And last but not least you will not get much support here for Tamil. Have you seen any Tamil forums or sections being active here? In my opinion now taking Tamil to the next generation is in the hands of Tamil Diaspora population. வாழ்க தமிழ்
