Controversial Advert's can help a brand increase retention in the minds of people. There have been quite a lot of offensive advert's on Indian TV/Media, with contrivances to offend the sensibilities of some, and hence make an impact the advertisers want. This particular ad, to the segment of the market who could afford hefty necklace / ear danglers for their "daughter", was tossed into the media for the hoi polloi. And got the blow back. While there could be short term loss of footfall (who wants to walk through rows of yellers in the season of Corona virus?), when this dies down, the Tanishq name would be better known. Other brands might come along, and try variations of this.
I dont see anything wrong in the ad. In fact there are many ads in the past along the same lines. Why this time it has crested a furore is something which people can think for themselves. Bjp is full on in its divide and rule. People are beautifully falling for the bait. Cheesy yes but definitively doesn't deserve brick bats.
The ad was to generate the controversy which it is doing everywhere when quoted. All marketing is good marketing. how much and how long to boycott!
