Murali is a Sri Lankan period. If any politician in India has a problem with him playing for Sri Lanka and aligning with Rajapakshe’s goverment, then that’s their problem. I don’t think Indian politicians should involve themselves in internal Srilankan politics or human rights matters. Indians are up in arms when Ilhan Omar injects herself in Kashmir. The same holds good for internal Sri Lankan politics.

Systemic racism is not a problem just in South Asia. When a group of people are cast aside as outsiders, not given opportunity, not given rights as citizens based on their skin color, place of origin, language or religion, then subsequent generations suffer(long after they are given these rights). I think considering all facts the Rajapakshe government is trying to integrate these next gen Tamils into the main stream. Murali is a person who can be the voice of these people. He is hopefully going to help them assimilate. They are third generation in Sri Lanka but hopefully we will see this change by the next gen. It won’t happen overnight.

And yes, the SL government in the past has made mistakes. TN politicians raising a ruckus and associating with LTTE etc won’t help anyone in SL. The change has to happen from within and I’m hopeful about the new government in SL.

I didn’t know about Murali’s biopic but who better to play the role than Vijay Sethupathy? I’m looking forward to watching it.

@KavithaUS : Though I didn't want to comment further on this matter, I thought going silent after seeing the below highlighted quote may create further problems. Just to clarify:-

The above line was just to clarify the other poster @chanchitra about the fact that one shouldn't depend too much on one sided media. Just to open her eyes, which seemed blindfolded with too much one sided information.

The above impression is what we (and most of the world) get about Dalith and their problems through media. Even it was well documented in one of Al- Jazeera show.
But we, as people who have visited or lived in India know this is NOT 100% true. No one speaks about the good deeds, or positive steps that anyone takes towards reconciliation. Because it is a long boring path.
Media wants catchy news, and the above is what comes in the media.

Apparently this is how the Tamil Nadu people were blindfolded about the Sri Lankan happenings too. The genocide happened, but we Sri Lankans have moved on so far from that in the past 1+ decade. But looks like some Tamil Nadu people are still holding on it, and will never move from it. This won't help us, but only benefit your politicians.
If you seriously have concerns for your Tamil brothers and sisters in Sri Lanka, please help us reconcile and live peacefully in our country. Don't rub salt and chilli in our healing wounds by bringing up this genocide (by posting genocide videos and pictures) on everything you do.
It is not an award winning movie to watch it again and again. It may entertain you, BUT NOT US.

Thanks @Laks09, @Cheeniya sir and others for your understanding and broad mindedness towards this matter.

The UN reports and International media criticized all the parties involved in this war crime, and not just the Government like how Tamil Nadu media covered this story. Especially some Tamil Nadu media (including social media) glorified criminals and terrorist organizations as if they haven't done any crime before.
This is exactly what I believe as 'one sided" story, and ignorance!!!

I hate both for what they have done to their people. Every Sri Lankan knows this. Period

Just a synopsis of a recent report from the UN news:
"Senior United Nations officials today expressed outrage at the very serious accounts of war crimes and crimes against humanity that were allegedly committed between 2002 and 2011 by all parties to the conflict in Sri Lanka, including Government security forces, affiliated paramilitary groups and the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

For me, a person who sides with LTTE is no different from a person who sides with the Rajapakse government when it comes to war crime.

It is not sugar coating or supporting Sinhalese, but being neutral and knowing the truth. Period

Arms struggle against any government will never be a solution and added to that when you want to establish a separate country for an single ethnic group will always remain a dream. In Tamil Nadu if its neighbor (Andhra or Kerala) people encroach TN border lands and ask to redraw the TN state map because there are more people speaking Telugu or Malayalam in the border area will the TN people be happy to hand over the land to Andhra or Kerala ? In India to share water between states you have to go through hundreds of agreements and court battle, when people who call themselves as Indians are not willing to give up inch of their own state do you think a country will allow itself to be split into two ?

Whenever you fight against a country with arms there will be losses on both sides that's unavoidable and each side can blame other on who committed the first crime there will be no end, every country has its share of injustice against its citizen and arms struggle is not the solution, it takes a long time for a society to mature. Tamils have migrated to Malaysia and Singapore and they have found ways to voice their concerns through political representation.

This is exactly what Sri Lankans have learnt the hard way. And we are working towards reconciliation & development.

But unfortunately some people use our battle to gain political benefit & make so many ignorant people protest out side of Srilanka even today. Which is very sad & unfortunate. But this doesn't do any good to the victims, but provoke towards another bitter fight.

That is because the Sri Lankan government was week and corrupt it allowed arms to be imported into its country and it could not manage to guard its borders, LTTE even managed to have its own navy and submarine.

There is no need to lock this thread, IMO. It is interesting to see different perspectives.
SGBV, I don’t know why I always assumed you were Sinhalese. It is very informative to get your POV as a Tamil living through the civil war. We only get to hear a certain side from most of the media. The story is certainly much more complicated and nuanced than just good vs evil.

Most revolutionary movements begin as armed insurrections and then mature into non-violent political entities if they want a seat at the decision table. The LTTE never seemed to grasp that.

I dont know what to say. The LTTE didn't ask separate land because tamizhs were a majority in North and east. They asked it because their rights were snatched and many anti tamil programs happened with jafna library being burned. Your analogy is wrong. All are treated as inidans within india. That was not the case with thamils in srilanka and that's the difference. I do agree the means they resorted to are not correct. But silent protests weren't heard. I dont support many practices of ltte. For example there were many groups which showed the protest for sinhalese dictatorial regime but ltte killed the leaders of those parties and became the only tamil party, suicide bombings, not recognising the hill region tamils. But all these were initiated by singalese govt and none of the peace talks with them worked. War was the last resort for them. What ltte did do fellow tamils definitely need to be questioned. But the singalese atrocities shouldn't be hidden under that veil. They are much much worse. They hold the main responsibility for what happened in srilanka. Even if they don't have the integrity of taking the ownership of the massacre they should at least not expect people to accept their feigned ignorance. If they had treated thamizhs as equal why would a protest happen in the first place. They started the division and ltte s was a reaction. Never can we say that both parties are equally responsible. The srilankan govt is responsible for 90 percent of the genocide. Period.
