Everyone would be aware of recent furore about the Tanishq ad.
Some feel the ad is very beautiful .

Some are angry with the ad saying it doesn't portray reality ,which is many hindu girls have been forcefully converted and abused after marrying a Muslim man
Some ask why don't anyone show an reverse ad in a Muslim girl marrying a hindu man.
I am just starting this thread to know your views

These are my views... I cannot give any solid reasons for these, they just are what I thought when I read the news couple of days ago and now saw the ad too in this thread. That disclaimer written, here goes:

Why would Tanishq advertising people approve such an ad? Do they really expect that regular people who see the ad will be as polished as people are when they shop at Tanishq? If they want to use the ad's angle, they could have something like a couple (same religion) managing by themselves during pregnancy, and the neighbors (of another religion) surprise them with a baby-shower and gifts etc.

About the ad - I find other things more irritating. The setting seems to indicate that the couple live with his parents. Maybe I am wrong. And, so much decoration for a baby-shower? Initially, I thought it was their wedding.

And the MIL's comment at the end, "but keeping daughters happy is a ritual/ceremony in every house"...Too cheesy.

There are many ad's from Tanishq and other similar businesses that are nice to watch. This was a mistake. India is not ready for such ad's and won't be any time soon.

All I could think of is that she’s wearing more gold on her hands than I probably had in my entire trousseau!

I am surprised that people are angry after watching this beautiful ad. This says a lot!!!

Perhaps the company thought the posh, upper class Indians who buy jewels from Tanishq are transformed, and are ready to accept this with an open heart. JMO

Speaking from my Sri Lankan background:
On average, the caste, race, religion and all kinds of greed is for the middle class society only (medium income + medium education), which is unfortunate though.
The upper class (super rich + highly educated) and the lower class (very poor + no education) have their own ways of handling these mixed marriages in a dignified manner.

Our Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse's Son married to a Tamil girl. The ex chief Minister of Nothern provice Mr Vigneswaran's both sons married to Sinhalese women.
The country's prime Muslim political party "Muslim congress" leader Mr Hakeem's son married to a Sinhala Buddhist girl and the list is so big & popular in the country.
There are many many mixed marriages among the children of high end Sinhalese and Tamil politicians, famous business persons and celebrities here and all of their marriages were accepted.
Similarly, we see plenty of mixed marriages among the very poor too.

But such relationships have never been accepted positively among the middle class society; and they will not be ready for it anytime soon.

Here are my unfiltered thoughts. I have no idea that people were mad about an ad and after watching this here, I don’t know why someone would be angry. It’s a beautiful as, a bit cheesy yes, but most Indian ads are cheesy.

As far as Hindu man- Muslim woman or Muslim man- Hindu woman is concerned, I have friends in both scenarios and when there is love and respect, no one cares about religion.

I am actually surprised that people were upset about it!

It’s a great ad but the company couldn’t have been oblivious to the blowback they knew they would receive. It almost makes me wonder if they were courting the controversy. Even educated Indians of my acquaintance and family can be very socially conservative. They may accept their own child marrying outside their faith but IMO it’s a bit much to expect Indian society at large to widely embrace this concept in public.
The ad also portrays a clearly upper-class family. Middle and lower-middle class people generally tend to be less liberal in these matters.
I’m not saying anyone is right or wrong. I’ve seen both ends of the spectrum. These are just my observations based on my own experience.
