    Dear Sri,
your post brought memories of my late fater, he passed away in 2002. He was a very gentle person and loved by all who knew him. I miss him very badly, especially when I have pulled a miscle. He was an expert in setting right chulukku etc. and did it as a service to all.
Now to the subject- he was a great dog lover and dogs loved him. He could become the master of any dog, however fierce it was. He had a way with them, he would talk to them in a soft voice and then it will be lying on his feet.
There was a rich man in the vicinity who had a large labrador. Usually the gate was always locked and there used to be somebody to open the door, the dog was always left to roam around the vast property. There had been many instances when the gate was not closed and the dog escaped- the servants would come straight to our house- it would be enjoying a loving cuddle from my father.
And my neighbour here had one. She called him her son and he would be the naughtiest. When they had to go out of station for their daughter's wedding, he was left alone in the house. I used to go and feed him when he refused to take food. He honoured me by eating a little. Sadly, the lady died in a freak fire accident and he was sitting in the balcony and looking at the road and howling for days together. It was so heart wrenching to hear him year for his mother.
I too love dogs, but having not been with them, I am not sure about how one would react to me.

    Dear Varloo
What you have narrated about your dad vis a vis his way with dogs sets him apart as a great soul. Dogs can spot a loving heart from miles away!
You may be new to dogs Varloo but dogs take to people as if they have known them since birth. No living thing reciprocates love like dogs do. You may have kicked it in a fit of rage when leaving for office but when you return home after a hard day's work, it will be the first to greet you and how! We , humans, will keep the unpleasant morning episode for days and make it a point to ensure that our resentment is reflected in every action of ours!

    Dear Sir,

I had a good laugh after reading the dear Bujjy's sumptious treat. But why one he should have bitten both. Next time maybe...

Yes it is difficult for dog lovers to sit with dog haters. Ask me about it. It can be absolutely terrible and the conversation ends in nothing less than a battle.

I love dogs and have been lucky tohave them as my dear companions all through my life. Infact firstly we hate it when someone calls them a dog. I tell them "the name is Muffin... Please call her that , not a dog."

Secondly i think they are the most loyal they love us so unconditionally, whether it is reciprocal or not but that never really stops them from showering their love, unlike us humans who is very selective in showing their love that keeps fluctuating as per situations.

I completely agree that a dog is a mans best friend, always stands by him , is around to help you feel secure. Very faithful.(These days we see more human in dogs and more animal in human).

    Loved your post Sir .

    Love,
    Your Mol

    My dear Mol
It is nice to see that you do not tolerate people who call Muffin a dog. I too cannot stand such insensitive people. Muffin must be very grateful to you for making her case for equality with humans so strong. I have observed canine humanness for several decades and have come to the conclusion that dogs are more humane than humans. If I start writing all the incidents of how humane dogs have been, they will be so emotional that I'll earn the sobriquet of Tragedy King and will be treated almost on par with you in that department!

:bowdownto your idea to have a separate burial for the dogs and also to your love of nature...
When our pet had passed away last year, my hubby asked the hospital people to look after his cremation, as he didn't have the strength to see our pet like that..

Bujji's eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth, and here leg(pulling the legs of dogs) for a leg..is greatly understood..:idea

    Dear Sri
Mine is a family of great dog lovers. We love everyone of them, from the crude street dogs to the well-manicured society dogs. I have even noticed the difference in their barking styles. While the street dogs put their entire heart and soul in their barking, the pedigreed society dogs display a unique style in their barking that comes only with good upbringing!

    Cheeniya Sir,
Every dog has a unique style in barking, but this also differs in stray dogs and pedigreed society dogs is news to me..

    Dear Sri
This could mean only one thing.
You do not observe the habits of dogs as closely as I do!

I am a big dog lover and I understand your dog's reaction was caused by constant irritation from your friend. We have a lovely Dachshund at home now who is going to be three years old next month. He is like a baby to all of us and we spent a lot of time with him. His only response to visitors is to bark to begin with and once we open the door and welcome them, he would sniff them a little and expect them to pet him. If he finds out that someone who came in is not a dog lover, he stays away from them. It makes him sad but he gets over that very easily because of love we shower on him.

Your blog recalled an incident that happened when I was 12 years old. The dog I had was taken accidentally by a truck that captures stray dogs. I helplessly watched the dog being taken by the truck as my parents were away. As soon as they came, I cried until my dad agreed to take me to the place where they normally keep them before they remove them to a remote location. When we went to that place, we called him by name, suddenly he moved so rapidly to the back of the truck moving 40-50 dogs aside. I could see how happy he was when he found me looking for him, through aggressive wagging of his tail. We lovingly brought him down from the truck and since then I never left him out of his leash.
