I am yet to learn how to cook an entire dinner, or cook for guests. Now I am helping my Aunty while she tends to my Uncle who is recovering from surgery. I cook lunch for my Aunty. My cooking sucks. Every afternoon I fry salmon fillets 1. First few times it came out raw 2. Later on it came out dry 3. Now it is tasty, but it is rubbery Ladies, ladies, ladies ----- I want to learn cooking. Healthy cooking. Especially if I ever love someone in my life. As in a Marriage. My question is not how to fry salmon fillets (I think I found a great link, Rubbery No More: 15 Tips for Cooking Seafood), but how to be a good cook in little time. More important, how to adapt cooking skills to the beloved I am cooking for? As they say, a way to a man's heart is to his stomach (I just want to practice with family first)
keep cooking .. however they turn out. The mistakes help you learn, I would suggest pick a few staple recipes. And just repeat them again and again. Most of the learnings can be useful everywhere. Instead of trying all cusines, all courses, everything at once. For eg: my first task was making rice, dal, curry and roti. rice, dal, curry was mostly simple int he first week itself. rotis took a lot of time. damn things just dont puff up. Next phase - paranthas, chole, rajmas, paneer recipes, next biryani no idea about non vegetarian phases though.
If you are in Chennai India I would recommend you join in KITCHEN QUEEN - a school in half day sessions for thirty days for a reasonable fee. Many future brides flocks to that lady kitchen queen who established long ago and the brides come out complete with confidence brimming. One such young student recently visited us after marriage with her young husband & the latter was all praise for her cooking varieties which established that she had entered hubby’s heart through his stomach!!! Look for such classes in your city. Alternatively, you can approach any of your friends who can come to your kitchen and step by step she can demonstrate turning out different dishes. Before that, one would like to find out the likes and dislikes of fiancé in relation to food. If he is already an aficionado or a gourmet or connoisseur or buff or epicure or gastronome and or cook well ...... Thanks & Regards. GOD - give us this day the food that never disagrees with our Stomach!
I think that if we love someone , say the family, we will take care to get to know the perfect recipe first from some experienced source ,internet abounds with famous cookery videos and cook with minute care following the steps and tada our product is good..! Cooking is adding the secret ingredient of love and care also of course experience.. Opostars conduct sessions to cook in easy and fuel saving way...too.
I love this. Start slow and steady. And I love the list of foods you gave. Staple recipes. As of now my salmon fillets have improved. I hope to move onto other dishes very soon!
Ah, I am away from Chennai ..... hope I can find a cooking school that caters to future brides (as you are cooking for someone rather than yourself). Of course, it is important to find particular food likes and dislikes of fiancé - even if he himself is a cook!
Definately. One must have happy and loving state of mind when cooking for loved one. I will check Opostars (this is the first time I am hearing of them).
but the out of profound love in excess some husbands cook too much for better 1/2s. Thanks and Regards.
In later part of 1960s IIT grads from India left to green pastures with their just np arrived young spouses and that was the The time demand for the cooking South Indian dishes book authored by MEENAKSHI AMMAL went for several reprints/editions. It was bible for many South Indian young couples who left their homes both in India and abroad. I do not know whether there was an English edition of it. The book was in two parts. Just for information. Thanks and Regards.
