1. h1 by a consultancy i guess. because if it was full time client, it is different. basically that changes the whole equation. H1, you need to be in billing asap. So your search should be what fetches you job for new status and then in parallel long term career above DS roles. point is h1 drama , sorry you need to be billable all the time. my H is in h1, so i know what he goes through whenever his contract is over. 2. if it is a full time in h4 ead and the employer who you are working is the h1 employer, you should be good. then you need to align your goals with the job responsibilities and build up on that. here is my small 2 cent on projects. h1 cannot be activated till oct 1. I guess you will be on h4 ead then . since you are relocating, you cannot look for new projects. so this might be the learning time. i would suggest pickup on Python. Code and practice a lot. then when you are relocated, you can really do anything about the projects. infact that will be more pressure, since your consultant, might give you a date to get something to find.
@startinganew - you have shared a lot of good info. Thanks for that. My husband is developing his skills currently, am asking for him. Like the above women slack groups, do you have any good gender neutral slack groups suggestions ?
My daughter did her masters in Data analytics in UTA in 2018, she did her intern in two small company;s but was lucky enough to get full time in one company. SHe is very happy with her job as of now.
Finally after talking to quite a few program advisors in different universities in the last few months I have zeroed in on these two online options to choose from during this week : 1: Data Science Certificate $12000 (approx including some misc ) .. $3000 for each course four courses to be taken ... roughly 1.5 years ...two electives out of 4 can be chosen from a wide variety of courses . 2: Data Analytics Certificate Program $6000 ... 5 months approx FT ... its analytics though with some of the content same as above and also some data mining I am mostly leaning towards the first one because i can complete one course at a time and get a cert . I am thinking of completing two courses initially and then move on to the rest in some time . Data Science Certificate Course Path both are certificate programs . do you think first is over rated and second is just good enough ? One last time your inputs please ! thank you.
all the best to your daughter i did research that course and heard from others that it was a good one . i read in your other thread that your DD was trying to decide between a startup and big MNC . I really agree with many others that she can learn a lot in the first few years at a startup. just one thing i wanted to mention was that if she would need a h1b (in case she doesn't have one already) the approval rates for both the companies could be considered too keeping in mind the fluid immigration scenario .
Thank you so much for your concern, her company sponsored her H1 Visa and she was very lucky to be picked in the lottery and also approved. Thanks again ladies I am overwhelmed by all your suggestions and good wishes for her.
Hi Just went through all the posts. My daughter has decided to take b.voc(data science) 3yr degree course. Can anybody share details abt how good the course is . Is it worth doing?
Update: I started the M.S in Data science (18months) program from Upgrad . Thank you everyone for your suggestions , will come back for more
@Caughtinbetween - if you dont mind, I've few more questions, can you please share your comments? Whats the course fees? Is placement guaranteed after course completion? Do they support global placements ?
