I had my upper wisdom tooth extraction. I did it with numb shots. Didn't go for sleep sedation. The procedure was very quick and I felt some pressure while pulling out. Then he immediately said it's done. I was shocked. It literally took 2 to 3 minutes. I immediately asked him (thank God. I was awake and know what's happening). I asked why no stitches? He said no stitches required for upper wisdom tooth and only lower ones will have stitches. Is that so? Anyone had stitches for your upper wisdom tooth removal? How will the hole wound get better and sealed??

And , I am bleeding for 6 hours and keep changing my gauzes. How long will the bleeding continue? Is it normal? How to stop bleeding? I am feeling so sleepy and I couldn't sleep because I keep checking on gauzes and changing it every 30 to 45 minutes.

How long bleeding is considered normal? my instructions page says that bleeding for 24 hrs is normal. If very severe, call the after hours. I don't know how much is very severe. I am changing gauze every 45 minutes and it's full. Before I put on another one, I see blood flowing on other teeth. How much bleeding is normal? How many hrs did you bleed and how did you stop it?

I had my wisdom tooth surgery about 15 years ago. It is a bit different- since there were stitches because incision was made also it was lower wisdom tooth (both). My surgery was done before noon, I sort remember the bleeding and changing gauge till late night, changing frequently, till I finally dozed off , It was better the next morning. That was a really painful couple of days, looking like hanuman . More details I cannot really remember.

Did they ask you to bite onto the gauge gently? If so , when you release there will appear to be some blood flowing out.
    Hope things get better soon.

    Hi,
    1. Upper wisdom teeth are easy to remove, hence stitches not needed.
    2. Bleeding and swelling on the side of the face where tooth was extracted is common for 48hrs post extraction.
    3. You need to keep changing the gauze every 30-40mins and ensure you bite onto the gauze slightly to arrest the bleeding.

    4. Do not...i repeat do not even by msitake sleep while keeping the gauze inside the mouth.

    5. Avoid popcorn, nuts and seeds for 6wks atleast after extraction.

Thank you so much for the inputs.

The bleeding stopped last night after 8hrs. I still feel oozing of blood whenever I drink and swallow water. I didn't start rinsing and brushing yet. Planning to do it today after 24hrs mark.
